Gas pedal extender?

My wife, at only 5'2" in height, is having difficulty reaching the gas pedal when driving the F250 and finally mentioned it yesterday. She actually has to hold her heel off the floor and it really kills her in the hip and thigh.

Short of buying a $50-100 extender online, any ideas for an extender that's 1) Inexpensive, 2) Effective (2-3" without raising the height above floorboard), and 3) Easy to remove and install as we switch back and forth driving duties on trips.

Anyone do this and can offer tips?

My main concern would be the safety aspect of what ever you come up with. If it fell off and got between the brake pedal and the firewall that would not be good. I think this is the perfect excuse to add power adjustable pedals to the truck..

The adjustable pedals fail #2 above. They raise the height of the pedal.

Wow...be glad that you can get your wife to drive yours. My wife refuses to drive mine. And the once or twice I convinced her to, I regretted it for days (actually I'm still regretting the last time!).

Sorry I can't help you otherwise.

It's rare...

Her Mariner's transmission blew up last week and is in the shop. I just had knee surgery and can't fold up into the Mustang. She had to drive to church yesterday since I can't drive for a while and the F250 was the only choice left.

Nah, she's a good sport about driving it when necessary. It's just physically hard on her.

Here is one option but you would have to make it so it just clipped on somehow..

i know you said they won't work, but i strongly disagree.

my wife is 5'3" and i'm 6'2". when i drive her truck, the ONLY thing i have to change is the pedal location. she drives with the pedals all the way up and i drive with them all the way down. everythign else stays the same (mirrors and seat postion). Her truck has the factory adjustable pedals.

i think adjustable pedals will cure what ailes you... from my experiences anyway.

Same in my truck. WHEN the wife drives, all she has to change is the pedals.

EDIT: just re-read and saw your wife is only 5'2", that could change things a bit.

I kinda wish I had that problem, good thing I go to work 3 hours before my wife, in fact she has it now, took our dog to doggie classes. Careful what you wish for. She want's an Excursion bad, next year I'm gonna have to move some vehicles and find her a nice 2005 6.0 EX before my poor truck get's wore out.

Nah, she's got her Mustang, my truck isn't at risk.

So, were power pedals even available for an 01?

My wife is 5' 1" with a 23 inch inseam. I bought a 2001 Ranger edge back in the day (5 speed manual). She could reach the pedals but was hugging the airbag (not really so safe). I made some 2x4 wood spacers with antiskid self stick tape on top. I drilled four holes, two at top, two at bottom and attached them with the heavy duty black zip ties. It worked perfect for her and was easily removable and able to be reinstalled.

I've wondered about the difficulty of retrofitting the adjustable pedals. I was under the impression that it was excessively difficult.

I'm a shorty, too... (5'6" on a good day...)

I zip-tied a 2x4 block to the clutch pedal of the Freightliner, but I never considered doing it to the Ford.... Hmmm....

Sorry to bring back an old thread. I just bought an 07 F250 CC, wife is short. How difficult/expense to install adjustable pedals? I see on the dash where the switch would have been located had it come with this option.

thanks.

6'3" here. Wife is 5'1". 2015 F250 XLT. She can drive my truck no issue (the speed limit is a different story).
