Sluggish 04 F550 6.0

New to the site and just received my AutoEnginuity so I am looking for some guidance on how to navigate it to isolate my sluggish problem on my 04 F550 with a 6.o. Turbo spools but takes a while to get there. My FICM reads 49 so I believe I am OK there. Please advise

Welcome to FTE.

I moved your post to the 6.0 section for a lot more engine specific help.

When you say the turbo takes a while to get there. Do you mean from a dead stop?

Does it have an 03 engine? What is the max boost? Does it smoke when accelerating? Any codes?

Its an early 04. No smoke. When I try to take off its very sluggish and cant get over 45 mph. Truck has 72,000 miles checked codes and got the norm P0113,P1000 and U1262 P1408 and in live data graphs a P132B which is actually what I have concern with. From what Ive read looks like that maybe a sticky turbo.

I agree. It is probably time to remove and clean the turbo.

Turbo sticky

So I pulled the turbo to inspect it for a sticking situation. It seems to me that everything spins quite freely, is the something I'm missing.

Compressor wheel sticking isn't a problem. There are vanes around the outside of the housing that direct airflow inside the turbo. They are moved with a unison ring that sticks to the housing when corrosion sets in. There are several good videos on you tube showing the internals and how the vanes and unison ring work.

Here's some good info from one of our members:

turbo sticking

after pulling the turbo and cleaning the unison ring and vanes, which looked good by the way. I reinstalled to find the same problem. The truck will start right up but could not get out of its way if it had to. very slow to spool up the turbo.

Do you have a way to read live data? If so, I would check the ICP reading when accelerating. It should easily hit 3,000 psi. If not, you may have a failing hpop . If that looks good, I would check fuel pressure.

ICP

When idle the icp matches the desired level but when accelerating it is about 1/2 of the desired and never gets over 1000.

Yeah, it sounds like your hpop is weak and needs to be replaced.

Could be an IPR when a clogged screen. Remove the IPR and check the screen on the end for damage or plugging. What the the IPR % when the ICP demand and actual are different.
