1950 Ford F1

Hey guys new f1 owner here. After inspecting it I discovered the front crossmember has been cut off flush with the frame to accommodate a 302. I have a flathead 8 I'd like to put back on the truck. I'm looking for some advice on what route to take to place the flatty "back in the truck" thanks Quenten

Was the crossmember behind the trans also removed? If so I'm surprised the frame is still together! Between the two of them, that's about all that holds the rails square to each other.

Yes pictures would help, but I can't help but wonder if maybe just the curved portion of front crossmember (part that the front engine mounts too) is what's missing?
My F1 had those taken out by the po as well. It had a 283 ? in it I think. The 302 should fit fine without messing with the front cross member, at least I would think it should?

Hi, and welcome, where in NC are you? If you are close enough I could come take a look at for you.

If just the curved portions (motor mount brackets) are missing, as Josh describes, then I have them already removed from a frame and ready to be bolted into yours.

The fact that he's telling us that it has a 302 tells me that there's probably a 99% chance that the original tranny crossmount is missing, and he might actually be talking about that. Then I would also assume that he could be talking about the flathead motor mounts up front. But, like said earlier, there's no way both the front and tranny crossmounts could be missing. That would be like trying to drive two big 2x8 boards down the road with nothing in between them.

Also the crossmember I'm referring to is the one with motor mounts. My location is southport nc. I'm on duty until tomorrow I will take pictures first thing. Thanks again.

Southport is a little ways: 2- 2 1/2 hrs, to just drop by, but if you need any help, let me know I've been around this hobby for> 50 years. Do you have a trailer?

Hey Quenten,
Welcome Aboard! It's great to have another 1950 F1 owner joining up.
You'll have a great time. Good luck - Post some pics when you get a chance.
(The easiest way is to join the site for $20 then you get a little paperclip icon & post pics directly from your harddrive).

I was just out changing the oil in our '50 this morning - well let me correct that - I was watching my 21 year old son change the oil. I was coaching.

Good luck over there in beautiful North Carolina. (You could get stationed in much worse places).

Could we see some pictures? Here is how.

But I got ta say becoming a supporter is the fastest and easiest way to post pics right from
your whatever pad/cell thing or home computer.
Few of us look in the users Gallery or album as you can see by your recent visitors.

It seems awkward, but whenever you "insert a picture" to one of these threads, the forum is looking for the picture somewhere on the web (which is always available) rather than from somewhere on your hard drive (which isn't always available).

Go to Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:
The best photos and videos | Photobucket

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post.

Hope that helps.

These are the only two pics I see in your album, but they're kinda small to be checking out what your asking about.

But others on here will know more about that than me.
