Gas VS Diesel the real world truth

Gas VS Diesel the real world truth
i guess this will start a argument but, before i start to validate my topic i own a construction company and been using trucks for 20 years in construction, i have used big blocks, small blocks, diesel.
we use trucks up to 200k-300k miles and we use these trucks hard!
Now i am am a bottom line guy with money and i have no time to mess around with nonsense or myths. currently my fleet is all gas that ranges from v-10,460,5.4 6.0 gmc 8100 chevy and 5.7 hemi. i would not never go back to oil burners because the gas engines by far cost less to operate, buy, fix and they last as long as a diesel.
here is one example, i owned a 24 valve cummins that i ran 100k miles plus my other gas trucks.
i had issues with cummins with overheating and turbo issues now compare the 460 in my f superduty during the same time.the cummins empty would get 17mpg empty, the 460 would do 14mpg empty, pulling my 10k dozer, the cummins would get 7mpg, the 460 would get 10mpg same load. when they both reached 100k mark the diesel cost 30% more than 460, the 460 pulled alot better as well.fast forward to today, before this current v-10 i own i had a 6.4 and 6.7 powerstroke, which i traded a 2002 v-10 for 6.4 which was big mistake. the 6.4 was awful, it never got above 8mpg and towing was not good, plus it was in shop 10 times. then guy at dealership told me new 6.7 are good engines so i traded. well it was the same thing as 6.4, i had to use my older gas trucks while it was in shop.
both of them did not reach 50k miles before i traded, i found a 2008 v-10 and bought it.
when i traded my 2002 v-10 it had 320k miles and still did not burn oil.
all in all the oil burners cost me over 50k more than gas.
as far as pulling goes, gas will pull anything diesel will, any truck has its limit.if some dummy tries to tow 16k with 250or 350 they will have problems because that is the truck's limit, if they made a diesel like a kubota or new holland then i would be a different ball game.
i do not dismiss a diesel, i have several tractors, grading equipmnt that has diesel and i never have a issue, but those engines are simple and do not have a bunch of exoctic stuff on it.
mfg lie about hp/torque numbers. they are nowhere near what the claim, i have a larger dumptruck that has 800ft torque and 6.7 does not even come close to that feel at all. real world conditions tell the tell

I have to say that your first post here on FTE isn't making you look very good especially since people are tired of hearing about this. We have a 02 V10 I love it no doubt but I love diesels to I wouldn't get rid of our v10 for a diesel but I still want one. I think maybe you got lemon trucks each time you went for diesel.
Also you are complaining about fuel mileage and you have a 460? We use to have a 93 F250 4x4 460 D60 converted extended cab Zf5 truck and it never got above 10 and that was lucky if you got 10 usually it was 8 not loaded and 6 loaded.

Construction business with lots of idling and low speed operations...no wonder you weren't happy.
Enjoy the gas motors.

simple fact is they had major problems. pulling 17k is way too much for a 3/4 or 1 ton, that is just asking for probelms as well as safety issues.
that kind of weight you need a small l70 freightliner that is rated for that. it has a 300hp cat with alison trans.
if anybody tries to pull heavy loads fast at like 80 mph of course it will get 7mph, i tow and haul no more than 65mph, this comes from a safety standpoint and wear and tear.
we do not be slow and idle, my trucks are on the move all the time but i take care of my stuff and i am not out here showing out. if i am pulling my 8000 pound camper with my v-10 and and a chevy guy passes me with duramax wide open i do not care, i keep steady and pay no attention.
i do not chase fools or try to prove a point to a fool.
my point to this is that company uses all gas because the oil burners does not meet bottom line and they have more issues, like i said before i am in business to make money and bottom line and the numbers for past 20 years do not lie.
in 100-200k miles from purchase to 100k-200k miles a diesel will cost a avg of 30% to operate, which from a new truck gas vs diesel if you buy diesel at end of 200k you will spend 15k more.
as far as dyno numbers, they are inflated pretty bad, if a f250 had 800ft of torque then the chasiss would not hold up at all.
just like that 6.7 i had, it was rated at 730ft, it felt half that much. the old 92 7.3 i had mid 90's was slow but it had torque and it was only rated at 375 but it felt like alot more just like my 460 and v-10.
btw that old 7.3 i had was a good engine, it liked fuel and it was slow but it was a good engine, that oil burner never gave me any problem

Wow this is interesting.
The OP appears to be a self-proclaimed expert on this sort of thing. Why bother arguing?

3/4 and 1 ton should not be pulling 17K huh...glad that doesn't happen around here.
Seriously, that is exactly what they are made for.
For the record my truck is rated for up to 22K and some change 5th wheel/gooseneck.
I do believe 17K will be just fine.

Well ****. I guess I need to go pull my 6.0L and burn it in a pile of Bibles because it's the Antichrist of diesels. Thank you for cleansing me of my blindness and sins so I can live in the light of your intelligence.
