Tailgate protection

My only gripe with my new truck is the small bed. Too little too late. I am constantly hauling things with the tailgate down. My concern is the paint holding up from all the crap on the road, on the tailgate. Has anyone found a cover that works well, meaning it covers the entire tailgate and stays put? I'm also thinking of just removing the tailgate for some of these hauls.
Your thoughts?

Thank you.

I've been very impressed with the BedMat that I have from BedRug. They have made a nice product here. It gets rained on, things spilled on it, had a forklift slide a pallet across it and I've yet to tear it up in two years.

Full liner:
Bed Rug Pickup Truck Bed Liners BedRug - Next Generation Bedliner

BedMat (just a bottom):
BedRug Bed Mat for Trucks without a Bed Liner BedRug - Next Generation Bedliner

And if you wanted to protect just the tailgate, then they make just a mat for that too:
Bedrug Tailgate Mats BedRug - Next Generation Bedliner

Happy hunting!

Thank you MCDavis, do they make anything for the other side of the tailgate for protection?

Ohhh you want outside protection? My apologies.
Companies like 3M make clear film wraps. The high end exotic crowd uses them for the front...many Porsche 911 owners clear wrap the car from the nose to the cowl.

Something like this maybe: Protect your vehicle's paint with Scotchgard

I can vouch for the 3M paint protection film. A friend of mine has a Porsche 911 that he uses the film on the front end, rockers, and behind the rear wheels. The quality (when applied correctly) is impeccable and you can hardly tell it is there (unless you run your fingernail trying to find it).

Thank you. Man that stuff's costly.

I don't if you've done anything in the past week, but I just found this while looking for a bike mount for my truck.
From Thule's site:
Thule Gatemate - Thule

I've spent years in bike shops and I've never seen this so I cannot speak towards its functionality, etc. However, I have owned MANY Thule products in the past and their build quality is typically top notch.

Just thought I'd throw that product into the mix.

This is exactly the type of product I'm going to get. After I talked to a rep at etrailer, the only thing he was unsure of, was it's durability over time with its use in the winter weather. There are times I throw a snowmobile in the bed of my truck.

I have used 3M paint protection on my F150 door sills, Peragon bed cover, hood, boat trailer etc. The stuff is great. Takes some practice putting it on but if you take your time with some patience it isn't too bad. Try eBay as there are some good deals. This is where I buy mine from and find the prices to be much cheaper.
