Yeah and they copied the character lines on the wheel well except they made them square so they could be different.
Hey it's gotta be like that. If they made a truck that looked radically different from the others, people would hate it and say it looks stupid.
I think square wheel wells are just plain stupid. The work truck I am required to operate (2013 3500HD), rubs with stock tires. You have to have a decent size lift to fit anything under there.

I give the original styling credit to Dodge. The '94 Ram started the focus on the grill in my opinion. They been trading victories since then.
The GM truck has a lot of pros and cons. I'm not a fan of the dated appearance. I hate the square wheel wells and interior. I think the Duramax platform is strong, but don't like the bought help from Isuzu (but I can understand it). I don't like the Allison transmission at all. I think it is absolutely a failure when a guy does any mods to the truck, (like just 35" tires) and he has to rebuild and strengthen the tranny. I've seen it on countless Duramax/Allison combinations of friends. It's a shame. They put wheels and a lift on and find out they slip and slip. I have been asked at least a dozen times how much I have in my tranny and they cringe when I tell them nothing.

Arguably the Super Duty also has a pretty dated appearance since it's been the same since '99. The guys who like it, like it, the guys who don't say it's time for change. I was like.. 6 years old when they announced the SD in 1998/99? I still have the brochure from back when. That my childhood dream truck and now that I finally can afford one they STILL look pretty much the same and I personally like that. But you've seen the threads around here from people saying it's time for a major redesign.

I like the looks of the GMC front end much better than the Chevy, Tundra and Titan.
"Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, said the old lady as she kissed the cow."
inre to the 2007/2014 Chevy/GMC wheel openings, a round peg looks horribly out of place in a square hole.

Surprisingly enough, I'm in the minority on a Ford-oriented forum. I've always really liked the styling of the GM trucks, and had their 2014 Silverado been available when I bought my F150 I may have taken a look. I think their new trucks look nice, but aesthetics are never on my list of priorities when I buy a vehicle.
My truck is simply a tool to me, and I buy that which fits the purpose best. So far I've had nothing but Fords for that reason.

Ford makes a solid product. When I was in Highschool in 1999, my dream truck was a super duty dually. Ford has had a solid platform for a every long time. The only reason why I own a RAM today is because it looks like they took a page from the Ford playbook and built a frame and front suspension that can finally withstand real punishment (2013 3500's switched to a much more stout 3-link versus the toothpick 5-link they used since the early 2000's). I test drove a Ford King Ranch and a RAM 3500 Laramie. But then the RAM won me over due to the Powertrain, fully boxed frame and new suspension setup. But it wasn't much of a leg-up over the Ford and I'm sure Ford isn't sitting idly by with RAM and GM putting pressure on the heavy-duty front.
