Explorer 2002 not pass the third shift

Before thanks for the opportunity. I've been looking in the forum about my problem but can not find anything like that yet. I have a 2002 Eddie Bauer Explorer. When running does not pass the third shift. If anyone knows anything about it I'll give thanks to share it with me.

Welcome to the forum!

Are any warning indicators illuminated in the instrument cluster? When is the last time the transmission fluid and filter were changed? Have you checked (or had someone check) the level of the fluid in the transmission? Are the first few shifts harsh or delayed, or do you have any harsh Reverse engagement?

Thanks Rod. Indicator light O/D flashes. The fluid and the filter is never changed. Does not appear to reverse problems. On occasion I heard a loud metallic noise coming from under the car while running.

Since the O/D light is flashing, that is indicating an active diagnostic code for the transmission. We could throw out quite a few ideas about what the issue might be, but it might greatly reduce the number of possible issues if you were to determine what the transmission thinks the issue area is.

Unfortunately a standard, consumer-grade diagnostic tool will not pull the transmission-specific codes. You'll need to find a friend or shop equipped with a professional scan tool to pull the codes.

I concur with shorod. You need to get the codes pulled first. The codes might indicate that it's too late for a fluid & filter change, but if not, that should be the next step, especially if it has similar mileage to my '02 Mountaineer (175k).
