How to set a fast idle?

How to set a fast idle?
I've been having this issue since I bought my truck but haven't decided to do anything about it until now. The problem is that my truck doesn't idle until it's completely warmed up, so I have to sit in the driveway and hold the gas down for about 5 minutes before it's warm enough to move. I read somewhere that to fix it you need to adjust the fast idle on the side of the carb but I don't know where it's at or how to adjust it. I don't really know much about carbs but I think it's just the stock carb that comes on the 351w. So if any one can help me out that would be awesome! thanks

The first thing you need to do is check and make sure the choke is working. It will never fast idle if the choke is not working right.
In the morning when it's cold(or make sure it hasn't been run in 24 hours or so) take the aircleaner off, and look at the top of the carb where the air goes in. You should see a metal door up there. Go in and mash the gas pedal all the way to the floor and then let it up. Go back out and look at the metal door. It should be shut. If it's not, then that's part of your problem, the metal door(which is the choke) is not shutting.

It means the choke is not closing. When it closes, it activates some linkage on the side of the carb which makes it fast idle.
Most of those carbs have a large round black piece on the pass side of the carb. Look at it and see if it has 3 screws that lock it down. Loosen these screws and then reach over with one hand and hold the throttle wide open on the driver's side of the carb(with the engine off of course) and while holding the throttle wide open, grab the round black piece and turn it till the choke door shuts. Tighten the 3 screws and then try to start the truck. You may have to adjust this round black piece for a little more or a little less choke.
And remember, from a dead cold start, you will always have to hit the gas pedal at least once to set the choke. It can't move if the throttle is closed, that's why I told you to hold the throttle open while adjusting it.
