1988 F350 4x4 Build Thread

Well, the truck was idling high because the egr wasn't connected, so I deleted it. Now it runs smooth and it purrs perfectly. I picked it up from the shop smiling the whole way home. It only has the headers and y-pipe on it right now, so I'm going to the exhaust shop to have my turbo muffler and dual exhaust installed in a week or so.
Idea and suggestions are appreciated!

Okay, here is my list of things to do in order
Buy new battery (the one in it now out of a car and won't hold a charge)
Test alternator
Install exhaust system
Replace trans, transfer case, and differential fluids
Replace steering column
Replace grille
Install ranch hand bumper(s) with winch
Install flat bed
Paint entire truck
I also found a set of wheels with good tires for $400 from a truck that was totaled by hail damage

My old stereo speakers are giving up the ghost, so I wanted to replace it after I get some other things done. Then my parents surprised me at walmart and told me to grab a stereo. I found this kit on sale for $95!
Then I found out about a fabrication shop here in Lubbock that builds custom bumpers, beds, tool boxes, headache racks, and just about anything you can think of. I sent him a picture of a bronco air bumper and told him I want him to make a copy of it without the grill guard or lights. He sent me a picture of one that he built for a customer's brick nose and I loved it. Broncoair charges $975 for a bare bones bumper with no paint. The fabrication shop said he will build it, sprayliner it, install it, and throw in 2 lights for $800! This is definitely on my to do list now. Here is a pic of the one he built. I might get him to make a rear bumper for my truck.
Ideas, suggestions, and opinions are appreciated

I have a pioneer kit similar to that, just get a harness adapter and dash kit, and about a dozen butt crimp connectors, huge difference compared to the old radio. The speakers have different connections, you can buy adapters for like $7 or just cut the factory plugs off. I still think its been the best modification I've done to mine yet.

I think the distributer is going out. I'm not quite sure what the issue is but it kind of "lugs" and it has some signs of a bad dizzy. I am out of cash and I would like to get something different. The plan was to enjoy this truck for a while but I really want a diesel and I can't afford the gas. The truck has a new battery, battery cable, and includes a ranch hand bumper for the rear. Make offer or trade for another truck.

I guess it had a bad morning. I started it up today and let it warm up a little bit. Drove around for a little while. It drove fine and isnt lugging anymore. I think i can get up to $3500, but it will probably be around $3000. Ive seen some 2wd ones like mine sell for $2000-3000 in simialer condition around here. I put it back at the house for a while and then the ignition wouldnt work. I would turn it and all of the electrical would come on, but it will not make the starter turn. I can literally turn the ignition in a full circle. I was told by my mechanic to replace the ignition but i havent gotten to it because i was going to replace theentire column soon. I may have ro hot wire a starter switch until i can find a good column

$3000 is pretty good if you can get it. Similar trucks here barely fetch $2000 and sit for awhile before they sell. A big truck that gets poor mileage just isn't popular here.
I feel your pain on paying for gas too. I am looking to get a car here in a year or so for a DD. My truck just costs too much to drive daily...

Nice truck man! It reminds me of mine..
I read on of your post that said you can clear 33s.. Just wanted to say you can easily clear 35s. I have 35s on my stock 89 f250 and they fit fine. Your f350 sits higher so you shouldn't have any problems.
Also, as far as "rims" go.. I don't think any rim will ever look as good as the stock ones that are on it. Blacked out or not. I'd save my money for performance or comfort upgrades, not waste it on something you don't need just because it "looks cool". That's just my opinion. I'm a little biased though because I'm running flat black stockers..
Edit: Just read the ignition post too. It's most likely the linkage that connects the ignition key thing to a push rod thing.. hard to explain but its a common problem. An easy temporary fix is to remove the two plastic pieces around the column where it goes into the dash and you'll see a pushrod on top. WHILE you turn the key like you were gonna start it, push that rod towards the dash. I know because I have to do it every day... they want like $90 for a friggin new one.
