Has anyone had this steering problem?

I have a 2005 f -250 super duty 4X4 super cab 5.4 gas motor conventional vacuum power booster w/ power steering. trying to find out if anyone has had or seen this problem I have a very intermittent problem ( once or twice in four days when turning back from a right hand turn only the truck steering wheel jerks to the left then when you try to compensate I turn steering to the right wheel then jerks to the right jerks to the right ( will not return to center acts like some is real loose but have had vehicle checked front end tight no stress fractures on the frame all mounting brackets firmly connected to frame all front end steering ball joints tight & no binding found I was told it is a bad steering gear box Would like to make sure before putting out a large chunk of change for the gear box
thanks

So it jerks in the direction that you are turning the wheel? I've never heard of a failure like this, but it sounds to me like you need a new steering gear. I wouldn't call it a large chunk of change either, my top of the line Red Head unit that I put in my Excursion was around $300, but conventional reman units can be had for around $200.

Hi Tom
thanks for the info.I appreciate your input Kinda hard to explain when you turn to the right only then coming back to straight ahead the steering wheel will jerk to the left you try & bring it back to the right then jerks hard to ther right might do it a two or three times when it does it then all sudden it fine& goes away might be three of four days till it happens again the weirdest thing I have seen & why only when you turn to the right? the cheapest I found for a steering gear is a ford reman with tax $300 + labor& alignhment
thanks

Just to cover everything check the front U-joints for the
drive axels.

Hi Guys thanks for the info . First both front tires are wearing smooth & even steering wheel sraight when driving straight ahead. I also did check the u-joints they look good not loose or damaged & I already lubed them previously before I posted did not change really a puzzling problem. All I know the problem is constant when turning to right only & coming out of the turn. Possible something internally messed up in the steering gear?
