The family went to Cracker Barrel today after church. On the way there I saw a red Ford truck for sale on a side road next to the highway. My wife was me look at it and she said I should look at it. She said she might like it better than my 70 F350.... it was nicer looking and the paint was more shiny.
On teh way home I stopped: It is a 58 F600 dump. The info says it was painted 5 years ago. It looked good. It is not a FORD bed. It has a PTO driven hoist. The price was $4990. It is located just West of Williamsport, PA (home of the Little League World Series) along Route 220. Here is the dealers name, address and phone number:
D & D Auto sales
209 Willits Rd
Jersey Shore, PA 17740
(570) 398-1768
Here is the dealer's website for more pics and info: http://www.danddautosales.net/1958_F..._204016271.veh

When we drove by the first time, I told my wife it is a 57 as I thought the 57 had single headlights and a grille kid of similar to the 56 grille. But when I looked at it the paper on the window said 58... so I thought the dual headlights started in 59 then...
I just checked the VIN on the dealer's website: F63L7U41354
So the VIN says it is a 57....

It's a '57. We had a '58 and they have dual headlights.

You can see the "style progression", if you will, from the '56, and the '57 changing to the new style but carrying the single lights, and then the "fancier" restyle each year after.
As to if this would be better than a '70 F350, that would remain to be seen. It probably has a 272. By now, the oiling problem with that engine would have been "fixed". Look for external oil lines. Rear axle? Single speed axles make for a 45-50 mph truck. Two speeds will get you to 60.
Check the floor of the cab. My dad had several of these trucks around in the early '60s and the floors were rusted out then. Check for plywood.....
If you are going to run this thing unloaded much, get a regular appointment with your dentist, as your fillings will be rattling out.
Looks like locking ring wheels? Check 'em all.
You ever fool with brakes on a truck this size?

Oh, no... it is not for me. It is too big and they wanted too much. I have a good running F350. If this was an F350 and cheaper then maybe I would consider it, especially since my wife says she liked it better than my 70...
I just wanted to pass this along to anyone else that might be interested.

Nice truck - but I agree, they are asking too much. There are actually 2 style of 58 front ends I believe. The 57 has single headlights and round turn signal, the early 58 had dual headlights and round turn signal and the late 58 has dual headlights and rectangular turn signal. I have been on the hunt for fenders and finally found some NOS with round turn signals. The one I am replacing are rust free, but one had some minor damage to it. The price for the replacement fenders was good enough it didn't make sense to try an fix the original. Will probably be selling a set of good 57 - 58 fenders later in the future if anyone is interested.
