F-600 truck 370 cid engine question

Does anyone know what is the difference or rather why ford put a 370cid engine in such a big truck like the F-600??? Is the 370 truck engine any different than the 429 or the 460?? Like does the 370 have a steel crank or better stronger rods and does it have forged pistons. Since I believe that the 370 is in the same family as the 429 and the 460, I was thinking that I could swap the 370 with a 429 or better yet a 460 and put one of those super tree trunck pulling torque cams with a healthy compression ratio (9.0 to 1). If anyone could please help me, I have absolutly no experience with the 385 series. I mostly mess with the Windsor blocks. Is there a good book that deals with the 385 series engines that you would honestly say' "Man that is a good book and I must have it in my collection." Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

Low rpm and gearing are what's important in heavy trucks and equipment.

F-600 truck 370 cid engine question

The only difference in beween the 370 and an industrial 429 is the bore. You COULD swap in a 460, but I really dont think you want to. The internals are beefier in the industrial motors and they have more low end grunt. The crank snout is longer on the 370/429 so you would need a different balancer setup and I believe you would have to change the timing cover to get your front motor mount to work. If you are dead set on having more power I would look around for an industrial 429.
