Frame Differences

Greetings all:

I am embarking on a quest to aquire/build a dedicated tow vehicle for my 1973 Ford Courier Rock Crawler as seen on October 2013's cover of "4wheeler" magazine.

The trailer weighs 4K empty and probably has almost another 4K when loaded so 8K max.

I currently have a 2012 Dodge Diesel crew cab, however a lot of the local runs I make don't require the long haul comfort and capacity of a new crew cab diesel and would like a cool older Ford tow rig to match the Courier.

I am looking for a 1973 - 1975 F truck but would prefer an F350 over an F250 if there are any significant frame differences.

Are F350 Frames of this era larger than F250 or F150 frames?

I have a lot of experience with '72 - '93 dodges but nothing yet with Fords.

Thanks

I don't think there are any dimensional differences between the frames other than wheelbase, 2WD/4WD, and cab configurations (length) but there are strength differences as shown in "section modulus". The higher the number, the stronger the frame.
Here is the page from the Ford parts catalog showing the different frames and section modulus of each.

There was no F-350 4x4 until 1979 and they shared the same frame as a 78 or 79 F250 4x4

Thanks for the info Mike.

So there were only 2x4 F350 SRWs prior to 1979?
