Mirror Replacement - Warranty Denied

Built "Ford Tough" my butt. I took my truck (2012 F350 4x4) in this morning to have the passenger mirror replaced as it stopped folding. The last time I had the truck in, they replaced the driver side and I had told the dealership that the passenger mirror was acting up too. They said it was working fine, so it wasn't replaced. Fast forward 3 months, and it finally went out. This time, Ford denied the warranty claim because I had a "scratch" on the mirror.

Over the weekend, I took my "Ford Tough" truck on a back road to my hunting spot in Northeastern Nevada (Ely). The road has some areas where the bushes are overgrown into the road and you end up with Nevada pin-striping. Well, with the mirrors folded, they still hit, but their thin branches are incapable of breaking a $1400 mirror.

Here's a resized/cropped picture of the damage and the reason why I was denied a replacement under warranty by Ford, with the dealers service manager pointing to it:

Click here for full-size image. The only manipulation of the pic is from me rotating it.

I'm upset and frustrated at the warranty denial. If this truck is supposed to be built "Ford Tough", I guess it's arch-nemesis up in the Nevada mountains is laughing its *** off. According to Ford, a bunch of branches (green and flexible, no less) about the thickness of a #2 pencil, broke a $1400 mirror.

Now, I'm going to contest it with Ford and we'll see where it goes.

Yes I would be going to another dealer over this nonsense. Heck the small bugs splatters on that mirror look worst than that small blemish.

It wasn't the dealer that denied it, it was Ford. The dealership takes a picture of the mirror and they send it to Ford, who then decide whether it's covered or not.

BUT it was the dealer pointing out the small scratch in the pic? Giving ford the idea to void the warranty? My truck would never touch that dealers lot again...

I'll definitely be doing that.

I asked the service manager to point to the area that Ford identified as being damaged so I could take a pic for my documentation. I'm giving the dealership the benefit of doubt for now.

I can't even see a scratch. That is crap. My passenger mirror has a rub worse than that.
I too take my truck in the woods because I have responsibilities and I choose to use a Ford tough truck.
If a little sapling can't touch my mirror, then Ford needs to stop making trucks.

I already had my driver mirror replaced because it stopped working completely (the same day after the turbo stopped spinning).
It was covered under ESP warranty.

If I smash one on a pine tree and the glass shatters, sure I need to pay for it.
But a leaf will not cause it to fail completely.

Ford, surely you know how silly this looks and sounds!
Heck we have bugs down here that do more damage than that.

I remember an incedent in another thread where someone was denied on a claim by one dealer and then went to another dealer who said I would repair it under warranty BUT once it goes into Fords system as Denied I can't touch it.

what am i missing here? i can't see anything in this picture that warrants a whole mirror replacement, that is ridiculous. you are wrong. ford should not have to pay for that.

Tom
OP says "he passenger mirror replaced as it stopped folding" that in it self is enough to have it repaired or replaced.
