77 F100 upgrade to 3/4 ton suspension
Hi there, I am new to the site but a long time ford truck owner & driver. I have a 1977 F100 2X2 long bed that I have had since 1987. I got the truck when I was 15 and could never part with it. Its been setting since 2005 when I blew the motor up. Well its time to give her a rebirth. I have always wanted a 3/4 ton so I have decided to upgrade the one that I already have.
So I wanted to see if I could get some friendly advise before I tore into it. I have already purchased a 3/4 ton rearend with the springs as well as the complete 3/4 ton front end. The calipers are a single piston. So here come the questions & concerns.
Are the front spindles that I currently have on the truck ( 5 lug ) the same as the 3/4 ton (8 lug) If so can I use the 3/4 rotor & caliper. I have not measured or put the micromete on anything to check this. This would save me a lot of R & R.
Can I upgrade the singel piston calipers to the dual piston & still use the caliper mounts and 8 hole rotors?
Will the rearend slip right in or will I have to cut & reweld the spring mounts on the axle. I heard that the F100 had a narrower frame then a 3/4 ton.
I think this is it for now... but I am sure I will have a lot more when its all said and done...
I will also get some pics on the work in progress on here for you all to see the rebirth of my favorite old truck
Thanks again
