V6

Mine is a 2001 vortec V6 . I removed all the electronics and went old school. It was fuel injected and electronic transmission. Got rid of both because I did not want a computer in the truck. I went with with a marine intake manifold and holley carburator and traded for a 700R4 tranny. No computer now.Installing this weekend.

It's been said. At the end of the day, it's your truck, and you should do what you want. I personally prefer to keep it stock. The old trucks draw me in for what they were, but we all have different taste. Good luck with what you do, and enjoy....

Well its official, no small block chevy here. I just picked up an 80's mustang motor (5.0 H.O.) with a set of late model GT40 heads, complete with all brackets, pumps ,alternator, distributor, serpentine system, pulleys, starter ,everything but an oil pan and intake all for 200.00!!The shortblock is still together but the rest of it is disassembled but its all there. Kind of hard to resist!! I even got him to throw in the engine stand it was on!!
Thanks for everyone's input!

I resisted adding opinion - lots of opinions, and degrees of heat in those opinions... But I will say I am rather pleases given the current cost of fuel to see someone put in a reasonable engine. Fuel is only going to get more expensive, the setup you build now will still be in use when gas is well over $5 a gallon so I'm glad to see you didn't go with a monster 700hp item that you wont be able to afford fuel for in a few years.

Sounds like a great deal! Are you going to rebuild it? Or was it apart to change the heads to the GT40's? EFI or carb?

It will be rebuilt. And will have to go carb for now. Injection would have been nice to help even further with the economy as well as the power and driveability but money wont allow at this time. Too many other parts to buy still.Just need to find an intake for the 302 it's the last piece of the puzzle! I will have to admit the temptation to stick the 428 scj in was tempting, but I wanted something I could drive everywhere and enjoy!

You're going to need a rear (mid) sump pan and oil pump for the 302 such as Ford offered for the Blazer. You can usually find them on ebay.

I think you meant to say "Bronco" not "Blazer".

Yep I just need to find the stock oil pan. The pump and pick-up was already a rear sump. The pan from the fox bodied mustangs were rear sump. Wrecking yard. 15. Bucks! Now just need an intake!

V6 ready to bolt and weld in.

Getting close. Needs to go back a couple inches and center it. Carburator spacer plate on the way and might be able to run motor in a week or so.

I'd recommend offsetting the engine 1 -1 1/2" to the pass side (don't angle it, just slide it over) to give more clearance between thr header and the steering box, especially if going with Toy PS conversion.
