Wacky Idea with a 400

Would it theoretically be possible to put my '78 400 and 4 speed transmission into my friends 1996 toyota 4runner? Asking for a friend.
(Not asking if its stupid, just asking if its possible.)

Sure if you have the fabrication skills. But fabrication will be a big part of it.

Sure! Anything is possible..... its just a matter of how much time and money you wanna spend on it! But like 85e150 said..... there will be a lot of custom fabrication since there are no 'off-the-shelf' motor mounts, radiator mounts, accessory brackets, crossmembers, driveshafts, etc.....

The 400 is a very wide engine and it’s height and width are closer to 460 dimensions than they are to 302 dimensions. Unless you get the ultra rare FMX 400 block you have to use a 460 size bell housing which is very big and will create lots of fire wall interference issues.

if you can find a big block 4Runner then yes it will fit but it may not and I don’t think it will clear the strut towers or firewall.

'96 4 runner was a 3.4 V6 iirc. OP will be busy with the smoke wrench to start.

Sure, Ford 400 will fit in the Toyota 4 runner, but the interior is gonna suffer serious damage if not packaged with lots and lots of bubble wrap.

You sure would be unique if you were to get a 400m in the 4runner
I think it might fit but I am with the above posts that a sbf might be a better choice
You will be doing a lot of wrestling with a bare block getting mounts made and fitting
I think it would be a ton of fun and turbo it while you are in there
I have a low miles 97 runner and friend has a TRD supercharger on his
I am dreaming of a coyote swap someday when my 3.4 blows
