black tranny fluid comes out tailshaft smells like raisins

Awhile back I had to change the rear u joint on my 93 f150 4x4 and when I pulled out the drive shaft from the transfer case I was prepaired for a little tranny fluid to run out but noticed it was black and smelled like raisins I was like wtf cause the trans fluid still looked nice and new and bein that the whole drive train is jasper rebuilt stuff with only about 60,000 on em I was a little dumb founded as to why it would be like that comeing out the tailshaft

Because it needs to be changed? The trans fluid in the tranny is separate from the transfer case.

Did you ever change the fluid in that 60,000 miles?
I'm assuming not

Transmission fluid should have a sweet smell to it, so no worries there. Have you been through any deep water lately? Is the breather on the T-case still intact?

Ive only had the truck a couple months but didnt know the trans and t case had seperate fluids and as far as being changed I dunno I was told when I bought it the tranny had been flushed and new filter and fluid but didnt say on the t case bein changed. The breather is in tact not hangin down and as far as bein drivin through deep water I dunno since I havent owned it very long. I recon ill drain and flush the tcase and top her off with fresh fluid. Thanks for the replies.
