Got it, all I can tell so far is the steering is a lot easier and smoother on the 2013 model.

I just drove it up town and filled it with gas, will post more later after I've driven it more.

That's the EPS. Electronic power steering. It's very nice. Even with bigger tires. Turns my 35s like stock and does the same with my brothers 37s.

Recently sold my 2009 F150 Lariat and bought this truck on Monday this week. Here are some pics from the dealership that day. I had the 5.4 in my '09 and I decided to go with the 5.0 in the new truck. So far I'm very happy with it and hope it performs as well or better than my other truck.

Interesting thread here, I would of never considered a 5.0 over a 5.4. I have been thinking of moving up from my 2010 but I just cannot grasp getting the Ecoboost and same with the 5.0. Maybe I need to read more into it

You got hosed! There are three of the top ten Ford dealerships here in Houston. Champion Ford, Mac Haik Ford and Planet Ford. All of them are advertising about $10, 000 off MSRP on their internet sites. I bought my FX2 5.0, appearance package and FX luxury package last year in march at Mac Haik. I was out the door around $33,000. To anyone who is buying a vehicle either new or preowned, GO ONLINE FIRST. Dealerships are fighting for your business!

I was able to get my F150 for $11,000 off MSRP. No haggling involved, the folks at Langway Ford pitch their best price the first time.

Langway Ford, Inc. - Your Auburn, Massachusetts Ford dealer for new and used vehicle sales and service

Seriously, I would bet you lunch that you can find a brand-new crew cab 5.0L for under $30,000.

I did forget to mention that he was upside down about 6k on his trade and this was February of 2012. This was at friendly ford in Crosby. I got my 2012 lariat 5.0 4x4 with everything except sunroof and navigation for 42.5. With zero down payment

I went from a 2010 5.4 to a 2012 5.0 and I can tell you the 5.4 was a much better pulling platform, only due to the lower end tork. the 5.0 is a beast after about 4000k on the tack. I have had both and never regretted getting the 2012 with the 5.0 and the fact I can smoke a 5.3 chity every now and then its a win win for me!

There are dealers out there that advertise and deliver on very competitive pricing. I recently bought my 2013 FX4 from Earl Tindol Ford in Gastonia, NC. I got $10,300 off sticker with no haggling. I checked and it was even better than the X-Plan pricing I could have used. The price included all possible rebates of course. I guess these big dealerships move such volume that they can do this. I'm 120 miles from this dealer but it was worth it for the savings and they treated me very well. My local dealers would try to play the old car dealer games and I refuse to do that anymore. I even had a local dealer refuse to do X-plan pricing once so that tells me they are not moving volume like some of the bigger dealerships.

Ok, I have driven it for 160 miles now...

Pro's

1. steering
2. transmission ( I think I am going to like the manual mode, when pulling)

other than that I can't tell much difference so far.

Gas mileage about the same (should get better with a few more miles)

Power
Can't tell much difference ( I think 5.4 had better low end torque)

I don't think its fair to compare yet, with no more miles than I have driven..

I will do some pulling this week-end and see how that goes!!

I'm sure you will end up liking it more than the 5.4. I have put 48k miles on my 5.0 and never once wished I still had the 5.4. Low end torque is a little down from the 5.4 but really all it needs is a programmer and everything tightens up. Throttle response, shift firmness, etc.

Roller57, my only comment would be about doing any heavy towing with low miles. In the end it may not matter much, but the recommendation I think is no towing for the first 500 or 1000 miles. I've seen conflicting info but might be worth considering. I also noticed a little less torque in the 5.0 vs 5.4 at lower speeds but as others have said I think overall its a better truck.
I do notice that the steering is much better than my '09 5.4 truck. On my 2005 5.4 truck I did the whole Catback exhaust, tuner, CAI, etc and it made a night and day difference in that truck. I did absolutely nothing to the 5.4 and it always had enough for what I needed and even the stock exhaust sounded better. Now with the 5.0 I could see me doing some tweaking again since the results sound so promising. I'll let it get broken in good first but will start trolling the performance mod forums soon enough I guess.

Enjoy the new truck!

Congrats on the new truck roller!!! That 5.0 is a great motor and it also has that awesome V8 sound to it. You will find yourself having no problem going to the store etc. just to get a chance to drive your new truck again...lol

I have test driven all the engines here. I found the 5.0 to be way more snappy than even than the ecoboost. I would even venture to say it is violent off the line. However let me get to 2000rpm the ecoboost becomes a rocket ship. The 5.4 is a hard working engine, but it just isn't as refined as the 5.0 IMHO.....

BTW- I went with an ecoboost- definitely something that should be considered....

I recently bought a 2010 SCrew with the 5.4 and 3.55's. Coming from Super Duties with V10 and PSDs the past 12+ years, I'm pleased as punch with the 5.4. I'm sure the 5.0 and EB are great engines too.
