I'm Baaack!

Hi everybody!
after almost a 3 year hiatus I am back on the forums... and more importantly, back in a ford truck!

When my fiance was pregnant with our second child I decided that the 97 f-150 I had was no longer a practical vehicle for us, because it only had the three doors and loading one kid over top of the other was impossible. So.. the truck had to go so that I could buy a family car(2004 dodge stratus). Bought myself a small 4x8 trailer to pull behind the car when needed and that is what I have been stuck with for the past 3 years.

Long story short, oil leak, fiance drove my stratus without knowing and seized up the engine. So I replaced that with a brand new Kia Sorrento which she drives, and I bought myself a Chevy tracker for my work car. Finally earlier this week I convinced her that her old car sitting in the driveway was useless and she should sell it and let me by something more useful. So she sold it for 2 grand and pocketed $1,000 and gave me the other $1,000 to go buy a truck.

So I went and found this 92 extended cab 4x4 f-150. It has a LOT of miles 200k, but since it is our third vehicle, I'm not too worried about having a project on my hands. It has the 302 v8, and the 4x4 works great. Can't complain for an $800 truck.

It seems i have forgetten how to use this website... I'll get some pictures as soon as i figure out how to do it again, maybe i have to post to another site first like photobucket?

Also, if anybody has some good links for information on these trucks, I looked through the stickies that the top of this forum. But I really don't know a lot about these. Like, for one, why does this truck sit up higher than a lot of the other ones I looked at? Is this what they call a highboy? I know they had that on older trucks... I'm feeling pretty clueless thus far as my last one was a newer style truck.

Anyway, lots of work to do in the future, and it all will start with a good tuneup on this 302 this weekend. The guy told me his son bought it two years ago with 200,150 miles on it, and yesterday i bought it with 200,859 miles on it, so it hasn't been run much. no exhaust on it, so I'm going to throw something to there this weekend, change out the plugs, wires, clean the distributor, oil change, air filter, all that good stuff and see if i cant get it running a little smoother, its chugging quite a bit at the lower rpms.

That's a nice truck.

I believe that the highboy trucks were earlier models, so yours may have a bit of a lift?

It almost looks like a normal stance though so maybe the others that you looked at had worn suspension systems?

For your tune up, try this: ignition upgrade and timing bump (no 56K) - FSB Forums

I haven't tuned up my truck yet, but a lot of folks like the results from the 6 liter tune up.

I don't think it has a lift, honestly, for $800 I didnt study it too much, drove it, gave it a quick once over and handed him the cash. For that little of money I knew i was inheriting some problems, and i'll figure them out as they come along.

it may just be the difference between the 2wd and 4wd suspensions. The other one I saw in person was a 89 4wd though and i didnt think it was that high. A guy from work has a f250 extended cab, and his and mine look exactly the same as far as ride height.

Highboys are Ford F-250's up to mid-1977 with factory 4x4. So no. But, it might have a leveling kit at most.
