I NEED HELP TO GET FLEAS OFF MY BORDER COLLIE
~I don't care what it takes...
I have tried flea and tick shampoo - also the stuff you put down her back
~All made by Sergeants, and she is still covered with them
What the heck can I do?
The options available have run out and done little good....
I have to hand this pup over to someone else that I care about too -
And I do not want to do so with fleas running all around her.
What can you suggest? I am out of ideas...

You'll probably need to go see a vet and get her treated. But, the problem is likely that they're in your current environment. I'm not sure where to look for the dang things, but I suspect that she's picking them up as fast as they're getting killed.
So, maybe treating AND a move.
On the other hand killing fleas by hand can be amazingly effective -- if you can do it. My wife used to do it when she had show dogs -- and they were Shelties with nice long coats. She used a flea comb with nice fine teeth and stuck 'em in vaseline. (I never tried it -- not that talented).
Safer for the dog too.
Good Luck,
hj

I've used, and still do, a product called "Comfortis". You have to get it through a vet, it's expensive, but what is a BC worth. A lot!!!
It comes in a chewable tab form, that my guy won't eat. So, I crush it up, and mix it into a ball of cheese, or canned beef stew. The stew is ONLY used for this, it's not exactly the best thing for dog or man.
It starts to kill the fleas within 1/2 hour, and is a monthly thing. It's $91 for a 6 tab package, but again, what is a BC's worth to you?

Blue Dawn dishwashing liquid. Wash the dog three days in a row using this dish soap (blue. I don't know if the other kinds work as well). It kills fleas (and all kinds of other insects). Don't believe it? Drop a live flea in a glass of water with 2 or 3 drops of Dawn in it and watch how fast the bug dies.
For the fleas in your house, use regular table salt. Pour salt all over the rugs. A lot of salt. Leave it for a day and vacuum it up. You'll have to run the vacuum over the rugs a few times to get all the salt, but it works. We did it last year.

I have heard of a pill that my neighbors use (one is a veteran of a Marine Corps MAG) that once you give it - the fleas take one bite and drop dead as stone.
I have transpo limitations though, and don't even know what it is called - nor if it is available online
He also sevins the crap out of his yard once in a while - talked to him today and arranged for him to borrow a tiller. This is a guy who has befriended even wild birds - they fly in and out of his garage and he can feed them by hand.
I think the yard needs sevin dust like yesterday, and I think I can get some nearby

I wonder what will happen if I begin adding garlic powder to their food?
NOW THAT INTERESTS ME DEEPLY!
The fleas may believe they are attacking Italians!
~That is NEVER good....
Seriously though - It never occurred to me, and you may have made a point. Many animals object to various smells, garlic being one.
Deer, for one - will avoid areas where their noses tell them not to go
In recent years I have explored planting various "ITEMS" - such as marigold and catnip, to repell mosquitos. It is certainly worth exploring
I will give their food garlic powder from now on
I once DID hear that if you smell like garlic - 'skeeters will leave you alone
I wonder if that is true of fleas as well?

I used a version of that made by "Sergeants" in little squeeze tubes
~Negative, Ghost rider - they evaded it or more were picked up.
I want a thing that will annihilate them the instant that they bite
My primary attack now is to eradicate the sources in the yard
Tomorrow, I have decided to sevin the yard, now that it is cleared.
THE GENEVA CONVENTION ON CHEM WAR HAS BEEN REPEALED AT MY HOUSE!
~Damned shame the goody two shoes have made Malathion illegal
