6.0 Diesel question from new guy

My motor-head friend tells me the 6.0 diesels are in demand by guys that want to modify the engines. Is this true and why? What modifications are being made? I have a 2006 F250 King Ranch, delivered late 2005. does this have the wanted engine?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes it has the engine, I recently learned they were made until 2006 that way, welcome to FTE btw!, if you swing by these Chapters you'll get a lot of good info on both the truck and the engine:

The truck: Super Duty & Heavy Duty - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
The engine: 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

You might also want to check your Regional Chapter, have fun!.

The 6.0 was put in the F-series trucks until 2007.

According to the US laws it wouldn't be legal to build that engine for any new truck after January 1st 2007, so my guess is they probably weren't. At least after they depleted any stock that might have remained.

Ford Power Stroke engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I've got a 2007 with a 6.0 in it...

The engine can't be built after that date. They were still putting the 6.0 in the E vans until 2009 IIRC.

Again, you own an engine made in 2006, your truck even being a 2007 model could have easily been assembled in august/2006. And even if made in 2007 still has an engine made no later than 31 dec. 2006 per US regulations.

Yup, the 2007 model year trucks had the 6.0 in them. The engine date is the sticking point.

Thanks, will check out the sites. Can you or someone else answer my other questions: What make them popular to modify and what is being done?

Ask that in the 6.0 Diesel engine Chapter and you'll get the proper answers. I personally have no experience with that engine so my knowledge is limited .
