89 F250 with a stumping fuel issue

Hi been looking thru these forums a lot recently since i bought my first ford, trying to find the answer to the fuel system nightmare on this truck. Its a 5.8 windsor, 4x4 with 131XXX , plow truck. and my troubles began as soon as i had paid for it and was on my way home with it. Knowing what i know now i would not have repeated this but the first thing i did was fill up the FRONT tank to full, because it was set on the rear which had no gas. As the tank in the rear was not shielded, and looked a little worn, i thought it would be better to use this tank, but oh was i wrong.

So i leave the gas station with the front tank gauge reading FULL, with the switch obviously changed front REAR to FRONT. I get about 18 miles before the truck dies on the highway. Diagnosed it as a fuel problem when i sprayed starter juice in the intake, fired right back up, so ive been prying thru the fuel system to see whats wrong. Came on here, saw many posts and threads about the selector valve being shotty, so went to look for that under the truck to discover that it has been removed by whoever had it before

So now im stuck. I have the fuel switch set to REAR just like i did when i test drove it. This is important because i can see that the front tank has pretty much been deleted, and the rear tank is all i get. But after replacing the HP external pump, the filter, making sure all lines are hooked up, and testing the rear tank pump, im lost. Can someone tell me what I have done by running the wrong tank like this. I have no idea were to look fuel systems arent my strength. Thank you all

So on the rear tank, you have no fuel pressure/delivery?

Nope, I should have said that when i tested the pump it was fine.clicks on after turning the key, and pressures there. since the front tank is disconnected i didnt bother to test that pump.

Are you getting power to your rear tank pump ? I have seen the selector switch go bad and melt the plug on the back . Switching it may have been the last straw . Another thing , If bypassed to run only on the rear , Is there fuel in the tank ? The gauge may be off and show fuel while empty .

Yeah i put about 5 gallons in there, i did lose some when i replaced the filter and HP pump but not that much. I havent dropped either tank yet, but I mean the rear pump is the only thing i havent inspected yet, it seems like this must be it. Ill drop it later on tonight when its not so hot out and report back.
