08 F250 wont crank over

i have an 08 F250 turbo diesel that wont crank over. I checked the batteries, start relay, power is good. the ignition switch appears to be working correctly. starter fires out when hooked up off vehicle. any suggestions?

weak batteries. Replace both. Check the starting circuit while cranking (or attempting to) in this case.

Check fuses first.

batteries are new 12.4 in each, checked fuses in fuse boxes under hood and passenger foot area, start relay clicking as is passenger side dash area.
When you turn key no power to solenoid bolt on starter, maybe another fuse in line or a switch somewhere?

if the theft light does shut off it could be the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor #3 if you can Unplug the sensor, check the resistance of the sensor, if it is open circuit, replace that sensor.

If it were the sensor after a cool down it should start.

see this:

  1. Parking brake SET <o></o>
  2. Key in the ON position <o></o>
  3. Open hood <o></o>
  4. Near the RH battery, there is a single wire disconnect. It is attached to the battery box. Remove it from the battery box and disconnect it. <o></o>
  5. Touch the end headed towards the starter to the POSITIVE terminal of the battery. <o></o>

The truck should start. Reconnect the wire, close the hood, andcheck for codes. You will likely have a code for EGT-13 open circuit, overtemp, out of range.
