Camper Special production numbers

I saw a listing on Ebay today that specified some production numbers for Camper Specials. I didn't know such figures existed. If so, can anyone tell me how many F100s were built in 1965/1966 and how many of those were Camper Specials. Note, I'm focusing on F ONE hundreds. Personally, I've only seen three or four ever. I'm wondering what the percentage of total production was. Thanks.

Where did the seller get them from, a crystal ball?

N-O-N-E = NONE!

There is no way to know how many were Camper Special's, because FoMoCo THREW AWAY all the records for these trucks decades ago.

All that's available are scant production figures kept by R. L. Polk & Co. for the entire auto industry. 1965 F100 2WD & 4WD figures were combined.

1965 F100 ~ Open Drive-Away Chassis & Windshield: 1 / Platform (Flat Bed): 25 / Platform & Rack (Stake Bed): 148 / Cab & Chassis: 7,637 / Flareside Pickup: 34,184 / Styleside Pickup: 178,581.

1966 F100 2WD ~ Open Drive-Away Chassis & Windshield: 1 / Platform (Flat Bed): 13 / Platform & Rack (Stake Bed): 120 / Cab & Chassis: 4,274 / Flareside Pickup: 26,491 / Styleside Pickup: 224,497.

1966 F100 4WD ~ Cab & Chassis: 145 / Flareside Pickup: 839 / Styleside Pickup: 4,493.

Interesting. That's what I thought I had read here some years ago. Too bad. It would be interesting to know.

Here's a link to the ad in question: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Ford-F-250-Camper-Special-Custom-Cab-1965-ford-f-250-custom-cab-camper-special-from-california-/330935978574?pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item4d0d524a4e&vxp=mtr#ht_500wt_1182

Here's a link to the ad in question: Ford : F-250 Camper Special/Custom Cab | eBay
Sellers total production figures for 1965 F100 (43,000) and F250 (5,298) are ridiculous. Seller then claims only 800 of these were 'turned into' Camper Specials.

1965 Styleside pickups assembled: 178,581 F100's & 42,044 F250's. Production figures include both 2WD & 4WD.

Seller hasn't a friggen clue, claims most Camper Special's came with V6's with 3 on-the-tree! How many Ford trucks came with a V6 before 1982? NONE.

And in 1982/83, only F100's were available with a V6.

1965/66 F100/250 Camper Special package included 300 I-6 or 352 2V, 4 speed manual trans or MX Cruise-O-Matic.

No FE engine installed in a car or truck came w/a C4 ~ NONE.

Seller claims tool compartment part of C/S package. It wasn't, optional on all 1964/66 Stylesides.

Seller claims "factory installed" auxillary fuel tank part of C/S package. NO SUCH THING existed before 1967.

Bottom line: Seller doesn't know what the hell he's talking about!

And anyone that believes that 'so called' 34,000 original miles jazz is unaware that the odometer reads to 99,999.9 then returns to ZERO!

Maybe seller is a magician, pulled the numbers from a hat instead of a rabbit!

I have seen only one half-ton camper special, a '66 Merc that is still around Vancouver. Lots of 250's of course; one of which I saw today: '66 Mercury 250 Custom Cab 352 auto 98000 miles, $5000. The only reason I did not bring it home is that I love my wife more than my truck habit.

The Camper Special option on F 100's was very low, for obvious reasons, the typical camper would overload an F 100.Nobody will have records on production numbers on this option. The option was abandoned 2 years later after introduction. IMO, through lifelong observations, I would say about 3 to 5% of F 100's were camper specials between '65-'66. When it comes to F 250's Camper Specials, I would say about 40 to 50%.

Back to the Ebay ad, I received the following reply from the seller:

I spoke directly with Ford historical department and those where the numbers they gave me remember it was the first year of the new twin I-Beam Suspension and this truck was manufactured in San Jose California. Thanks

Now I'm confused.

Speaking of F100 Camper Specials, I own one, too (a '66). I've only ever seen a handfull of them. I would love to know approx. how many were built... or how many survive.

Here is one of those low production F 100 C.S. on ebay, looks very clean and appears to have original special color paint. Original 2 piece 15" wheels have been replaced with newer bump wheels, but still very original including western camper type mirrors.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-F-100-Camper-Special-1966-ford-f-100-camper-special-long-bed-/321596496779?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4ae0a51b8b&item=321596496779&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

Looks like factory power brakes too. I found a booster and the long vacuum tube that connects to it for my F250. Looks same as this one.
