New to the old fords...

I've been looking for a decent older ford pickup. I came across one locally, but do not know too much about them. The one I have found has a small block chevy with a 350 turbo transmission. It also has power steering and power brakes. This is all I know about the specs of it. It looks decently clean in the short time I looked it over. There is some minor rust around the edges, especially in the back half of the truck. The wood bed is also rotten and not in good condition. The guy is asking $4,500. I don't know what they are going for or have much info since I have not seen many at all for sale in my area. Here is the only picture I have...what do you think?

Welcome to the forum. I can not view the picture. IMHO, that is not a bad asking price if the truck is in good shape and the mods done correctly. What are your plans for the truck? Detail pictures of cab corners, floorboards roof edge, door bottomsare invaluable. Unless the rear gearing has been changed, the truck would not be very road speed friendly. Area of the country seems to have a lot to do with price.

Hopefully the picture I posted right above this post worked.
My plans are to make it a nice, good running truck that I can take to local
car shows and drive a couple times a week. I forgot to add the year, it
is a 1952. Thanks for everyone's help and advice.

Hey Tacuff,
Welcome Aboard! We paid $6500 for our 1950 - it was running but not well & needed quite a bit of body work. So your's looks to be in the ballpark on price.

Most likely it will need quite a bit of body work as these trucks are 60 years old. Bed wood kits are around $500 - $700. Entire beds including the wood go for around $1500 - excluding fenders. Fiberglass fenders are $270ea & readily available. These trucks are popular so the after market reproduction parts are readily available.

Problem areas I would avoid if possible - A solid rust free cab will save you a lot of grinding/sanding/welding/painting. If the cab is rusted out up high around the windows & drip rail - that's a tough time consuming expensive repair I wouldn't want. Under cab supports is another expensive one - take a look under there. Replacement doors are hard to find - look at the bottom 10 inches & the hinges & door posts.

The back cab corners & floor are fixable with patch panels and some welding.

Good luck over there - Looks like a good project but expect to do some work.
