I think he did the rotor and bearings on one side, then pads for both.

I waited till today to do the pads on the second side, everything else was still fine over there. I did bearings just last year, and only redid the one side because I smelled grease smoke along with the brake smoke and thought it would be smart, plus I had to have them apart to do the rotor anyway.

well, today found me looking at the car i dragged home last week. its a 75 volvo 240, not running, as much maintenance history as i happen to remember. its got a gear driven camshaft much like the ford 300, which i replaced the gears for a couple years ago when they broke. and they're broke again. i'm trying to decide if i want to spend 160 for another set of gears and sell it as a running beater, or sell it as is for parts. what do y'all think

Well how much could you get out of a beater 240? If you can get more from a whole running pile vs a parts pile, I'd go for that.

I can't say but I'd figure the 75 Volvo 240 parts market is pretty slim. But any running car is worth at least $1000.

yeah, as is i doubt i'll get more than 500 for it, more like 4. i don't want it sitting around forever to part it out, and it wouldn't take a whole hell of a lot to get it running again. i don't remember the details of when i did the job before, but it wasn't as bad as a ford 300 timing gear which requires a hot gear and a cold shaft while you press it on.
maybe i'll post it on craigslist and see what the response is

A camping trip would be cool but in the current state of being jobless, camping isn't on my priority list :/ One of these days though.

As for the Volvo, shoot if you get anything for it, it would be alright. You got it for free right?

sure i got it for free, but thats the wrong attitude - i'll be content with whatever, but i'm sure as heck gonna make the most of it. i know i could sell it for scrap metal for 300 bucks or so, but i'd rather do something more with it, either something profitable or useful - or both

Josh you could buy my mom's 2002 Camry for 7,000 it's only got
86,000 on it. Also gets it oil and other parts done at the local Toyota
shop so it's trackable. I have a week to sell it or I will be driving it to
my sisters in California the week after that. Do I want to drive that
little can ? Yes I said can as in beer can. small cars hut my back to drive.
Someone PLEASE SAVE ME from that drive.
If you want photos of it I can post some.

Today has been alright. I could have gotten in a lot of trouble on my drive home today, luckily the po-po weren't watching me.
