Your Favorite?

Workin' on knots tonight... What's your favorite knot?

I like this one and it's cousin, the sheep shank.

Somewhat off topic, there is a knot app in the Apple App Store.

It sometimes comes in handy for fishing/boating purposes.

I think so, but haven't tried any.

Truckers hitch (Waggoners hitch) is very cool. My dad was a master at it, and always amazed this young lad when he tied them. I never really mastered it.

Surgeons loop is my go-to knot for fishing and lots of other things. I never saw the point in all those fancy fishing knots like some guys. I usually use the surgeons loop as a form of truckers hitch. Works great, and offers the same leverage advantage, but does not untie so easily when unloading.

The Boy Scouts publish some handy guides/cards/booklets.

Depending on the fishing application, the Palomar Knot and the San Diego Jam Knot are the only two knots I use when fishing. I also use the Nail Knot when connecting 2 lines together.

I use the Palomar for attaching almost all jigs/hooks etc when out on the ocean. I do the jam not from time to time on the salt, but it's all I use for fly fishing. The nail knot I picked up out of need when connecting a leader to a fly line that doesn't have a welded loop on the end. There are a lot of "tools" that come with instructions on the nail knot. It definitely takes a couple practice knots to keep it straight and together as you tighten it, but it is a very secure knot and goes through the guides fairly easily.

Always intrigued by the bowline. Always remembered the directions about the rabbit coming out of his hole, round the tree, and back down the hole.

Do you guys still use the fireman's chair knot for rescues? I've always been a fan of the sheep shank knot, another version even though I don't ever use it when shortening lengths.

I learned it, never used it. But I'm sure someone does somewhere.

Bowline is a great one , everyone should know .And a taught line hitch is good for tying stuff down if used with a double half hitch .

Been trying to teach 80 how to tie a square knot for his swim trunks. Result is irreproducible, but I like it.
