I agree, but that seems to be how it's done around here. Several of the places I called wanted the VIN. maybe they are just double-checking the paint code?

Could be or making sure vehicle wasn't stolen. I'm 37 and my first 'new' ride was a slightly used 97' Ranger in 98' when I turned 21. I wanted a tonneau and spray-in bedliner and I dropped off the vehicle at a local aftermarket place. I was waiting for my ride (my Dad), and after I dropped off the keys to the clerk I was in the parking lot checking out another's ride. Clerk went to check my VIN, and it was then, that I learned that it is run through a computer to make sure I am/was the legal owner.

Here are a couple pretty bad pics.
Depending on the lighting, the cap sometimes looks like a different shade, but I am sure it's because the bedsides and the cap are at different angles and contours. Also, the truck was filthy when the cap was installed, so that doesn't help.
I should have some pics of the whole thing clean this week. Maybe.

Fit and finish seem fine. Install service was fine.

Wow, that's a bad color mismatch.

Update on my story with the Snugtop, my truck has been repainted and looks brand new and everything matches now. Now we'll just hope that is the only tornado that finds my truck!

it looks worse in those pics than in person. It's very subtle in person.

Not sure if anyone is still interested, but I got the truck cleaned and have some more representative pictures. After looking at this from nearly every angle, I'm actually very pleased with the color match. The issue is that the angle of the bedside and the cap are very different. It's all about the angle.

Sorry about the huge pics, hope nobody is viewing this on thier phone . . .

Well, got my truck back today after Simoniz coating and all the work is done.

(Tornado) + (New Paint) = (Matching Topper)

Looks great! I had to take pictures because I'll probably not clean it up this good again myself. It was delivered to my house absolutely spotless! I feel like I got a brand new truck today. Now we have more storms and tornados in the forecast this weekend.

Very nice. I can add that having a topper is interesting to say the least. I thought that I would never need one, but a new job a few years back changed that. I bought a used ARE for my 08' Ranger, and I was more than pleased that the color matched perfectly for my Dark Shadow Gray vehicle. Though in different light or a dirty vehicle it was amazing how the colors seemed to vary.

Funny part is, I can still see a clear variation in color between truck and topper. It's just a fact of life with different materials.

I think it has more to do with angles than materials. I have looked at my topper from every possible angle, and I'm convinced the paint match is perfect, but since it's a sharp change in angle, it looks funny from a lot of eprspectives. if that was a smooth curve on one body panel, it would look fine.

Ya, it does often look different but it all came from the same batch of paint this time. It's all in the angles. You can see little bits on the truck body where it is exactly the same color as fiberglass topper. But it sure is a hard story to sell when you look at it!
