More Space in the 2nd row

I was always jealous to the space in a Dodge Mega Space Cab in the second row, so
there was time to do some home improvement to my second row in our beloved Ex.
My wife is always getting nervous when she sees me heading to our Ex with tools and measurements.....I dont know why!
So I find out that I could relocate the complete 2nd row about 5" backwards with some
new DIY Brackets, since I dont use the 3rd row, without touching any panels.
Well, after some work and a couple of beer its done.....

Here are a close up of some welded brackets...
They were made from a steel 1/2" thick x 2" wide plates. And I used almost 4 yards of this material.*

They look now a bit ugly to me, so I will paint them in a matching colour and will relocate them mostly under the carpet, so that all you will see is the nut and some minor of the plate.
I forget to make pics before for a better comparison but it was definitive worth the work.

You see here, that I relocate it to the max amount without touching anything.

Its much more room for legs now than you would think 5" actually make.
The front seats are both at their last edge back and still a huge space now.
Much more comfortable now...in my opinion.
All seats are full functional....just like OEM.
Ah, btw, my brackets lifted the whole row around 1" to 1.5" wich made it even more comfortable. The armrest in the doors are now at the right height and the angle at the knee is more pleasant.....for me.
Even my wife said, that something is different.....but definitive better.

I posted this info at first in another thread, but some of you chimed in
with a PM and showed interest in a set.
Thats the reason why I posted it again in an extra thread....So dont wonder.
They asked me how much it will cost to reproduce it....
and to be honest I dont know
It wasnt planned to start a business with this.
It depend on how much are willing to get one and the shipping cost from here.
I have to some homework for this.....
.....but I guess it will be inclusive everything around $120.
Ill keep you informed......

I only would recommened this relocation, if you dont need the 3rd row.
Those 5" arent the world, but its enough to please the 2nd and get the 3rd row
unconvienient.

I like the concept!

Are the stock bolts also mounted through the floor?

I don't want to be a bummer on the business aspect, but you should consider

The liability on the product. All aftermarket companies do structural testing and

Carry product liability insurance.

Think about the Blitz gas can company, now out of business over liability

Suits.

re : rear seat relocation

Great idea thought about doing something about the leg room.I guess theres no issue with seat belts? Maybe you can cover the brackets with some carpet from under the seats. How long of a project is this ? I might be interested in your kit.

No issues with the belt. The fact that the row is relocated backwards give those belts more lenght, so its now much easier to fasten my little daughters seat. Its exact those little lenght I bought a extender for, wich is now useless.
The slots on the 2/3 side got their own brackets, so again no issue.

I dont want to put this project on a long row. I have to calculate the material, paint, bolts, a little manuel and of course the shipping costs to you all

The new bracket is fixed with hardened M12 Bolts in the former OEM hole.
I cut a new thread in each bracket where I reuse the OEM T55 Bolts.
Due the massive steel is the new cutted thread even double deep as the OEM threads in our bottom.
So, of course I couldnt give a guarentee on it, nor will I do any crash tests, but Im pretty sure that my ultra solid construction will hold everything.
Dont forget, my wife and daughter a sitting on that construction.
I wont play with their lives, if Im not 200% sure.
But remember, its not a company where you buy....its homebrewed from a friend to another for a little money.
I have not in mind to get rich in a week.

Seat

Looks nice, now with that in mind, do you happen to have the second row, 60 seat bolt cover in Medium Parchment. The one that was closest to the drivers side? Doesn't look like you would be using it, perhaps I can buy it? Thanks!

I bet you could go to a junk yard and look around and find some interior pieces to cover up those new brackets.

How are the little boards on the back of the 2nd row? With being moved 5" back, do they still lay down flush? I wouldn't think they would

To be honest, I never find out for what these thingaboarda should be, so I never
used them if someone even intend them to be useful. When we bought the Ex
it was my first work to rip the 3rd row out, the second topic was sitting in the huge space infront of the back of 2nd row asking myself what the hell are they for?, why is this step in there?, what should I use the space for and why
didnt they make the row to push and pull it, like I want and fixed it than.

So I cant answer your question correct, because I dont know what there for or better how they will look when used right. Sorry.
Please light me up.
