'90 F350: weight of cab, frame, and such

Hi,

I am going to do a frame-off of my truck (in signature). This will be my first. As I think about how I will yank and move around the various components, it will help if I have an idea of weights.

Anyone have an educated guess of the weight of:

1. Stripped cab (no doors, glass, or seats)
2. Stripped frame
3. Bed

Thanks,

Roy

A stripped CREW cab I would guess to be 400

Bed is 200
frame is 200-300

Thanks Brad. I was guessing somewhat more...but, have not much to base that on. The weights you suggest will make things go pretty easy.

I'm currently doing the same thing but with an excab. It's still a heavy **** and a pain to move around myself. I've been using an engine hoist with straps to lift it and made a plywood and 2x4 platform on wheels to move it around. I would say 500lb (stripped except for glass) is not out of the question. I tried to rock it back so the rear window was on the ground to work on the underside. I'm fairly big and strong but could not do it, had to instead rock it forward from the back and still felt like 200-300lbs of effort.

As for the frame, I cut it in half and the back half and bed became a trailer, the front half (bare frame except for TTB still attached) hit the scrapyard scales at about 800lb. Draw your own conclusions.

Your frame estimate is HIGH

I have a bare reg cab long bed frame that I (by hand) took off of a trailer and put on a set of jack stands.

It's not an estimate, it's what the scale said and they're not in the business of over paying for scrap. The scale slip was 980lb and the only other thing in there was a IDI flywheel and two front fenders.

I can tell you right now a bare frame does not weight more than 600lbs. I would bet ALL my trucks on that

EDIT:
Just did some more searching. My original Number is low

A FACT that Lighting frame (a reg cab short bed frame,117") weighs 355lbs.
They are the same thickness as a 3/4 and 1/ton frame. That means it is 3.034lbs per inch. So a 168" frame(crewcab long box) weighs 509.74lbs

Good info, can't argue with that math. What's a D50 TTB weigh? That has to be 300lb right there? Then the springs must be 50lb a pair minimum.

Thanks guys.

Well, the stuff must weigh a lot...as I am estimating curb weight at 6,500 to 7k.

So, the thinking is:

8' bed, 200 pounds
Stripped crew cab, 400-500
Crew frame, 500 to 700

Damarble, you ran straps around the floor (through the door openings) and then picked the cab up, with an engine hoist, from the inside of the cab (at the center of the floor)?

Yep, had the doors off, ran straps to each corner inside and stuck the hoist arm inside. It's tricky to balance.

Thanks Gettysburg. Yes, good to know. That a Diesel, regular cab?

Thanks again Damarble, this is how I pictured it. I am sure with only one lift point it will be tippy.

Yes sir. Its the one in my sig. Reg cab, diesel, 4x4, 5 speed, dually. It has like a 163? wheelbase I believe so Idk if that makes a difference. Also the dump bed is aluminum. So its not 100% the same as everyone elses but its pretty similar.

Update on weights:

My GF and I just pulled my 8' bed. My guess is that it weighs somewhat over 200#. Maybe 250.

It is a handfull for two people. I would say, 4 people and it would be easy, and you could be gentle and precise.

Now to the cab.

My 7.3PS Crew Cab tips the scale at 7800lbs.
