460 vs 454

Hey guys. Iv been a fan of the ol 1990 Chevy 1500 SS 454. They were definitely the hot rod truck of their day! Iv always been a big block fan.

Here recently, I purchased a 1992 F-250 w/ a 460. Its definitely a reliable truck with power to boot. My question here is which is better?

The Chevy has a 3.73 LS rear end. My Ford CAN have a 4.10 posi rear but has 3.55 open now .

Chevy is of course 2wd, and mine is 4wd.

Chevy: 230 hp 385 ft lbs. Ford: 250 hp, 400 ft lbs (couldn't find exact numbers)

Chevy has 3 speed automatic, mine has 5 speed manual.

Chevy weighs somewhere around 3800ish lbs, Ford weighs 4800ish

Chevy $8000 in good condition, Ford $3000 in good condition lol!

I guess my biggest question is, who would win in a straight up drag and which is funner to drive?

This isn't really a comparison.

Why would you drag race a truck that weighs close to 6k lbs and makes less than 300 horsepower? Nobody would win in a drag race except for whomever sold you fuel.

Horsepower sells cars, torque wins races.

Im not worried about fuel consumption, just which is faster

If the chevy really weighs less than 2 tons, it eats the 3/4 ton ford alive.

The Chevy would win the race for sure because it's so much lighter. I'd rather have the F-250 though because of the 5-speed.

This question is like asking if it's better to haul two tons of rock in an F-600 dump truck or a Pinto station wagon...

A complete waste of bandwidth!!!!

I completely agree.
If you have to ask a question like this your not very smart in my opinion.

I wonder if a I wonder if a Pro Stock will beat a Street Stock in a drag Race? DUH.

Agreed. 2 TOTALLY different trucks.

But put the 460 into a 1/2 ton short bed and the Ford will beat the chevy all day long.

Or put the 454 into a super cab 4x4 chevy and the ford will win again

HA!! No.. the 454SS weighs closer to 5000lbs(a 5.0 mustang convertable weighs 3800lbs) and I don't see a big block F250 weighing anything less than 5500lbs, and given that both engines make roughly the same power the lighter truck wins a drag race. That's doesn't make the SS better however.. it's till a chevy.

IIRC, the 351w powered lightning spanked the 4545 pretty handily!!
