Can it be done? (Sorry Aaron). The more I think about this I don't see why it won't work. As usual I'm looking for some guidance. Thanks guys.

Yep. Probably what I'm going to do. It's just a generic fluid temp probe that says "trans" in the face.

I was talking about this in Rich's coolant filter thread...
Where would you put the probe if you have a coolant filter?
The issue is most installs ive seen is putting the probe in the port on the side of the water pump which is where my fitting is to have the bypass coolant filter.

Just get a filter base with more than two ports. Napa/Wix 4763/24763 has two inlets and two outlets with 11/16-16 threads. Dieselsite also sells their's separately if you ask. Also 4 ports on it.

DUH! Unplug one of my filter bases plugs...

Derp.
I think I thought of that once, but was concerned it would be like the 'pre/post turbo pyro' thing where if i had it in the bypass setup it wouldnt get an accurate reading.
I guess it shouldnt be too much off...unless the filters clogged.

And more than that.u think that zf don't get the fluid hot? If so....don't they have a cooler? I can't rem.i know the zf 6 does.been a while.or check rear diff temp...there millions of things to monitor that can be made to cool better.

No pump/cooler in the ZF5. The ZF6 is a pretty rare bird, being a manual tranny with a pump/cooler.
