Powder coated Aluminum wheels

I'm buying the Raceline Assault wheels in a couple weeks..They are powdercoated black...They recommend that I put clear over the powdercoat because I live in N.W. Ohio...I wondered if anyone has any experiance with this type of wheel and if the clear is neccesary..Thanks in advance

I have Helo Maxx wheels and I sandblasted them and then put a powder coat over it and I have had no issues what so ever with mine. I did not go for a clear on them it all depends on how much road salt you might hit and how often you clean the wheels. For me right after a storm comes through I go out and hose off the wheels and wheel wells ASAP but that is just me. The wheels are on my truck in the sig below.
