I have NO idea... help needed

Hi all...

I just got a 2003 150 Triton V8... It drove fine on 2 test drives, but now needs rotors turned and pads... No big deal... That's easy...

Now I need help with ???... The reason I mentioned the rotors is while in drive, it "skips" like what happens when I hit the brakes...

Basically loss of acceleration, and I am thinking fuel pump as I'm an idiot and let the gas run down to 1/4... That being said, I have done that to several different vehicles and never had the same symptom...

The fluid levels are fine as far as oil / trans, and I have used Lucas religiously for years... No leaking on the driveway, no gasket problems that I can see, but the engine service light is on...

I need to get an OBD2, but before that, I figured I would see if anybody could help... Thanks for anything... Love the truck, want to get it back to normal

I got the OBD2, it's the 3rd cylinder... PO303.. Only error found... I'm going to replace the plugs and wires anyway, but does that usually fix that???

You mean a "miss", where the engine stops firing for a split second? Then yes, time for plugs, etc. and that should suffice.

Probably... It's like skipping a rock on a lake... for a split second the rock stops, then continues... Just keeps doing it though... I have been told it could be worse by mechanics here, just praying it's only the coil / plugs

Deep breath...relax, just time for a tune-up...plugs, etc.

need more info.

How many miles are on your truck? if around 100,000, then definetly change all the plugs and buy bosch platnum only. if it shows one cylinder after that then it may be time for a coil pack. you can never get them wet, high water or a carwash that sprays the undercarrige, bad, bad.

138K... My Brother in Law knows a mech that has worked exclusively on Ford Trucks for 30 plus years, so I'm getting the free estimate soon... I can't even tell where the plugs are on this thing... I have a general idea, but on every other vehicle I have, it's obvious where they are... Thanks for the advice on the car wash, I never use the automated ones

Hey mr. Mitch, listen up to my uncle's short story..

My uncle has got 2002 Mercury Sable LS- 6 cylinder 200 hp.

he bought it in 2007, it was good car with good acceleration & mpg.

but after 4 years, he told me that he feels that the acceleration became so BAD and the mpg became bad too..

Then, I asked him to do this step & then I asked him to test driving his car and then give me a call to tell me what changes has been happened:

1. New spark plugs (Motorcraft or Accel).
2. New spark plug wire set 8.5 mm (Motorcraft, MSD or Accel).
3. New ignition coil (Motorcraft).
4. Clean the fuel injectors.
5. Start your engine, let it warms for 5 minutes "in order to let the engine refresh itself", then drive normally with a gradual acceleration. You'll notice that the real power has came back again to your engine.

Then, I received his call, he told me that he will give me ($150) as a comission!!
He also told me that the real power came back and it became noticed..
He mentioned that pressing on the throttle pedal should now be lighter & lighter than before, because you feel the spark comes in your foot !! Pressing a 1/4 throttle pedal is enough to launch my car like a monster!

That's what he said..

.

But before that, it is good to scan your F-150 with the OBD2 to give you the actual problem code.

hope you fix that.. DON'T forget to replace spark plugs, wires, coil + cleaning the fuel injectors..

if you done that, please inform us.. I'm waiting your response..

Thanks for the replies... I'm doing the fuel pump soon... According to the mech, the plugs and coils are brand new... Why the OBD2 said third cylinder, I don't know... The code was cleared and I just tried again, and it says cylinder 1... ???

That's the only code I get
