Seafoam question...

So I didnt want to clog up the other thread we we're going back and forth on it... but I did the sea foam in the vacuum line and oil this morning. I followed the directions. Let the truck warm up, unhook the vacuum, pour in slowly, reconnect... turn off.. let sit. I had a small poof of white smoke when I first started it... and that was it. I find it hard to believe that my 11 year old... 200k mile truck didnt have any build up. Should I try it again? I'm just a little confused..

The smoke isn't the build up, it's the seafoam burning off.
You might want to do a longer session and maybe poor in a little bit more.
You can tell when the truck is close to stalling... I usually try that.
As to how well it works... well.. I think you can do this with plain water. It's the steam that burns off deposits. Ever seen the top of a piston where the headgasket was blown ? squeeky clean.

Longer soaking session? Or take longer to install it? Interesting theory on the water... not sure if I'm ready to do that though haha

No, poor in the seafoam a little longer and and a faster rate. The rpm's are up since there now is a vacuum leak.

I've done the water on an old beater w 1.6 motor. Still runs strong , 220K and counting.

Thanks for the tips... I'll try it again a little later. I was taking it really easy worrying about locking the engine up.

No issues with hydrolocking?

Nah, not really.

You're letting the vacuum suck it through the tube and since you can't just stick it in the can of Seafoam, you should be ok.

To the OP, after you've let it set for a few, when you first start your engine, you need to floor that some beach and go WOT.

When I used to do this on my Lightning, I'd barely get any smoke if I just started it and let it idle. But when I go WOT, I'd smoke out my street like a low flying Blue Angel F/A 18 Hornet!

No, no...don't rev her in neutral. Put her in gear and mash that pedal. WOT under load, driving down the street.

If you put it in the oil, DO NOT go WOT, and plan on changing it soon.

Why?

A few ounces mixed in with 6+ quarts aint gonna hurt anything on a gasser, especially when it's only a 2 or 3 second blast. You're not heading down the 1320.

With that many miles, I wouldn't risk it on a gasser, oil is already thin enough. A dsl, thats a whole 'nother thing... But then again, I don't t run any additives in my oil, I just keep regular maintenance with quality oils. I have seen and had to fix too many disasters over the years putting engine flushes into high milage motors. I do seafoam all my top ends once a year though. 1/2 a can through the intake, the other half in the tank. Love watching that smoke show roll. The neighbors, not so much...
