I just stumbled on this thread. Looks like you found a nice truck to recreate your Grandpa's truck out of...very cool
From looking at the original pic there is one thing that strikes me, and I can't believe nobody else pointed it out. OK, all of you, go back and look at the original pic....do you see it? the thing thats wrong?
Ok, I'll tell you. That truck must be in the Twilight Zone or something....look at the door handle......ITS NOT SAGGING DOWN!!!!!
You mentioned having a bad front end shimmy after hitting a bump in your truck. The dreaded "Death Wobble". One of the biggest causes of Death Wobble is the toe-in adjustment. Sure loose parts will exacerbate it but the root cause usually comes down to the toe-in adjustment.
Good luck
Bobby

The new truck, the driver's side does not sag, but the passenger side does... must have been a big city truck always using the passenger side to get to the curb instead of getting run over.
Now if your talking about the B&W pic, it was a new truck then
Thanks for the Death Wobble tip... I should of thought of that since it's common with lifted jeeps. My Jeep it only does it in reverse.... so I don't drive fast in reverse

That is one SWEET truck you have there!!! Concerning your wobble when hitting a bump you would do well to check out your king pins, tie rod ends, drag link ends and steering box for looseness. King pin looseness can be really bad about causing that sometimes. Looking forward to seeing it in your Grandpa's truck trim.

I believe most of the big trucks did not have the T9, a good number of the F-1's had the T9. T87D (heavy duty 3 speed) and T98 (synchro silent 4) are my guesses. Page 18 of the sale slick doesn't specify exactly, just "4-SPEED TRANSMISSION offers extra pulling ability in first gear, as much as 100% more than typical 3 speed. trans-mission in some light trucks."

My cousins who own Vinyl Images Design & Printing in Fenton MO offered to wrap the old girl to make it look like Grandpa's old truck. Here's a sneak peak
