Questions about tires and wheels.

Hi all,

I'm trying to get as much information as I can before buying the F250. It will be a used 2008 to 2011 model.

I'm assuming that my insurance company won't let me install a lift kit. So keeping everything stock...

How big a tire can I put on without lift?
Will I need to reprogram something or will the speed be off or something else?
How much worse will MPG be? (6.8l or 6.2l engine)
Where do I find wheels that fit with the F250 front lock hubs for winter tires?
How big can I go and still be safe to tow 800lbs onthe bumper?

Thanks. I did some searches but could not find any good information on this.

I run 295 70 18 with no lift. The wheels are -12 offset as well.
I got a tuner and that corrected my speedo.
I lost 1 MPG but I got mud tires.(no regrets)
Some leave the center caps off the front, others drill out the center with a hole saw.
The tow ratings are different per tire. Shop for a tire that will safely haul the weights you need. (E rated tires)

Thanks for all the info. I did not expect people to drill out the center of the wheels. I think I'll look for a set of OEM wheels or something that looks ok without the center cap.

Most truck wheel manufacturers will make centers with an access hole for the 4WD hub. You just have to ask.

I just remove the center cap when snow is gonna start falling, lock hubs and put cap back on. Hate the addicts without caps

I have read conflicting information on this...

Obviously if the auto engage works 99% of the time I'll just use that and keep tools in the truck for the 1% when it does not to take the cap off.

If the auto does not work and I decide to lock them. Is there an open diff in front so that I can still turn??? Actually I have no idea what kind of locking there is in the front and back; all I know is that the center diff can be open or locked 4x4 and 4x4 low. Also apparently there is some kind of vacuum that goes along with that to make the front hubs lock.

So is there an always open front diff so that's actually a 3x4?
What about the back? Does it lock? When? Viscous like the subarus? Gears like the Audis? Electronic whenever 4x4 is engaged?
