IFS Jag question
Hi could you give me a bit more info.I have done lots ofreading about fitting the Jag ifs on a ford. Some people say use a jag series 3 up to 1986 but then i have read you can use a early 1990s.Also do you use the jag steering colume. And the parts that are needed are they the total suspension, the rack and pinion. The power steering pump the rubber hoses andt the steering knuckle joint is there any think else.I do no a couple of people who have brought the later jag ifs but i have been told as this has abs brakes they have the wrong one.Thank you

I also used a hub to hub 86 xj IFS with power rack and pinion. Very easy to install if you use the factory mounts. Quite a bit more work if you weld it in but it sits lower this way. I grabbed the ps pump but wish I had grabbed the steering column too. I installed the jag wiper system so I could have 2 wipers and the controls are on the column.

The IFS on the XJ6 and xj12 changed in 1987 however the same suspension continued to be used on the XJS thru the early 90's (1992 I believe). It had to do with the fit of the wider V12 which was the engine used in the XJS. The XJS IFS has the slightly stiffer springs (as do the xj12's) and also has the larger diameter, i.e. stiffer, front stabilizer bar. note that the stiffest springs were used in the xj12 with air conditioning.

I can't get you a measurement since I am not assembled at this time however I can tell you that when I had my F-1 assembled with the Jag cross member soft mounted under the frame it is lower than the rear with the eyes reversed on the original main rear leaves and every other leaf removed.
A good source for you would be Holmsey in the UK who did a 55 with Jag front and rear. He has been driving his for a couple of years. It is gold in color and beautifully done by Holmsey. He has a great blog of his build on the net, do a search.

With the 1953 and later 34" wide frame rails in the engine bay, you either have to notch the frame or notch into the Jag cross member. The F-1 rails are pinched in at the front 2 inches and the Jag "falls" under the frame rails.
The Jag has been installed either way when soft mounting in the 34" rails.
The 3rd option is to weld in the cross member.
Go to this site it is Holmsey's to see how he soft mounted it in his 55 F=100. Oh by the way, it is a great build record. You will enjoy it including the UK unique "car speak" complete with wings and bonnets.

I recently bought a jag ifs I was looking for the 84 xj6 based off the info Ive gotten off of here. When I got it home it I measured it from both mounting brackets of the stock jag mounting hardware it was 34 inches my 1952 f1 frame is only 31 inches wide. 49willard I believe I would have to weld it to the frame do you think the same. By the way im new so hopefully I dont have any dumb questions or have you guys repeat yourselfs.

You can either soft mount it (I did) or weld it in. The outside to outside of the frame rails in the 48-52 is 32 inches in the engine bay. The rear soft mounts on the Jag will fall close to the middle of the frame rails.. If you check my gallery, there are in process pictures of the Jag mounted in addition to the pictures below.
