Mods that should be done to my 04 PSD

What mods should I do to my stock PSD to make it more reliable. I have recently run into a WIF issue that I am going to take care of this weekend with new Motorcraft Fuel Filters, flushing out the HFCM, and adding the upgraded brass plug. I am also running a Motorcraft Oil Filter with 5w-40 synthetic oil.

I am just looking for modifications that other members have made that were upgrades for their stock early 6.0's.

Thanks,

Adam

Other than changing out all the fluids and filters I installed the blue spring and coolant filter right off the bat. Also had a ScanGauge on it right away as well. Other than that just being meticulous with the maintenance.

Thanks for the information. You mention the coolant filter, is there anything specific that I need to do there? Is it Motorcraft? I will do some investigating on my own, but I just thought I would ask.

If anyone has anything else, please give your opinion.

Thanks,

Adam

A coolant filter is an aftermarket or homemade upgrade to the cooling system. There are several well made bolt-on kits on the market that aren't that expensive. They help with keeping the engine oil cooler from plugging up.

The fuel pressure regulator upgrade spring is the first and most important thing anyone who values their injectors should do for their 6.0 PSD (unless it's in an E-van). E-van, at only 245 hp, does not use as much fuel and so the pressure requirement is a little different. Between my dealer and I, my truck got 10 injectors and cost over $8K in parts, accommodation, transport fees and general stupidness over the course of three weeks just after I bought it - the root and primary cause was the fuel pressure was only 40 psi at full load.

Seriously, measure the fuel pressure and change the spring if it hasn't already been done. Like, this afternoon...

I will make sure to check into that asap...if my parts arrived today I am going drain the fuel tank and clean out the HFCM and see if I can't fix my WIF issue. I will take a look and see if I already have the blue spring or not. For a truck that has 140,000 miles, it would be hard to imagine that it doesn't already have it, but it also looked like the HFCM hadn't been cleaned in a very long time, so who know what I'll find.

Thanks for the help and anyone else who has more suggestions please keep them coming.

Thanks,

Adam
