Strange noise from 6.7

Recently my brother in laws truck started making a buzzing sound while running and a much louder sound after it shuts off. Any help would be appreciated trying to track down the sound. Please listen to the whole video because the end is where it gets loud.

Thanks

I've been researching the same noise and have so far come up with it being a pump that's kicking on as my 2011 f250 does the same thing I've been to two mechanics now that aren't 100% familiar with these trucks but do know its normal and believe it has something to do with the urea but if you find out more please post

I think a cow may have gotten sucked into your intake manifold. 42K and I hear lots of interesting noises coming out of my 2011 but nothing that loud or annoying. It sounds almost like the EGR valve may not be complete seating or hanging on de-accel.

I was thinking the same thing. Almost 3 years with my truck and I have never heard anything like that.

Probably the waste gate solenoid if it does it after shutdown.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-shutdown.html

While it is making the noise hit the breakes, if it quits, that is what it is.

Mine has been doing it for a long time, I never bothered to get it replaced because I don't nitice and ill effect other than the noise. Mine starts about 30 - 60 seconds after I shut it down. It's a good conversation starter when people say WFH is that

Thanks

Sounds very similar to what I have, Dealer responded with:

"NORMAL CONDITION, SEE SPECIAL SERVICE MESSAGE 22508"

From a previous post:

22508 ; 2011-2012 6.7L PICK UP TRUCK - BUZZING UNDER HOOD AFTER SHUTDOWN
SOME 2011-2012 F250-450 SUPER DUTY PICKUP TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH A 6.7L DIESEL ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT A BUZZING NOISE FROM UNDER THE HOOD AFTER THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. THE BUZZING NOISE IS CAUSED BY NORMAL VACUUM BLEED OFF IN THE VACUUM SYSTEM RESULTING IN THE WASTE-GATE SOLENOID BUZZING. THIS NOISE NORMALLY LASTS FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 SECONDS. ENGINEERING HAS REVIEWED RETURNED COMPONENTS AND DETERMINED THIS IS A NORMAL VEHICLE CHARACTERISTIC. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THIS NOISE. CHASSIS CAB VEHICLES DO NOT APPLY TO THIS ARTICLE BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT EQUIPPED WITH WASTE-GATE.

Thanks Ryan! I didn't know they were not replacing them anymore. So your options are live with it

Darren. Hitting the brakes stopped it so it must be the solenoid like you said. He's hopping that Ford will replace it even though though they told Aggie it is normal. It is no way that making that sound is normal. My question to Ford would be that if that buzzing is normal, is it not working properly when when it was quiet a thousand miles ago?

LOL good point. People who have trucks without the noise should start taking them in asking for it. . Mine has been doing it pretty consistent for probably two years. Normal or not its not an issue for me.

Let us know please.

I have never listened to it with the hood up but I am assuming it would be similar so close to the source. With the hood down you can hear it at least 20' away from the truck. Standing by the front it is pretty loud. Will try to get a clip in the next while. Very similar sound.
