7.3 IDI VS. 7.3 PSD

So I found this deal on an IDI diesel F250. The guys the second owner, has 144k on everything. it's never been off pavement and only used to haul the guys boat and camper in the summer. Otherwise it sits. He said if I buy it now he'll sell for $6000. It's got banks exhaust, lifted, good paint, grill guard, bed liner, 1 ton suspension and air bags. The guys been a mechanic for the past 32 years and owned the truck for the past 15. Very clean inside. Does this sound like a good deal on this truck? I'd like to get into a diesel without the PSD price on everything. I'll be using it to haul horses and my skid steer on a flatbed. Oh and it's a five speed with a fast clutch (I forget what he called it)

Thanks all

Here's the CL link...

The truck looks clean. And the suspension thing, what is he talking about? I'm fairly certain that the F250 and F350 use the same rear suspension, with the difference being the rear block on an F350 is taller. And if he has an F350 front suspension in it, that's a downgrade with the TTB axle.

Those grill guards are absolutely garbage. If you hit something with the left side, it's also going to take out the right side and destroy the bumper.

Otherwise, the truck is probably worth that if nothing is wrong mechanically. It should suit your towing needs pretty well.

Yeah it looks like a nice truck. If it does have a turbo on it than it is an aftermarket kit. Probably a Sidewinder kit made by Banks like Tye said. But like I said it looks like a sweet truck. I would go for it if you like it. I would offer him $6000 or less and see what he says. If he stays solid at $6500 and you're okay with that than I'd just give him the $6500. Either way like I said I'd definitely go for it if you like it.

Just wondering, but what happened to that other truck you were looking at. The 97 7.3 PSD CC LB lifted and the paint job I think it was? That was a awsome looking truck. But this one looks good too. Just didn't happen or what. Like I said just wondering.

you don't often see the idi trucks kept like this,so it's higher priced than the average one is.it's not 20k at least lol. id say it's nice enough that if you don't buy it for that money, then someone else probably will.
however most will spend the 6k on a 94-97 psd truck rather than a idi truck, for what thats worth.but i doubt you would find a pickup in as nice shape as that sporting the psd either,so she's right there priced accordingly imho.
she's ready for a dump bed some tool boxes and a plow!
summary;
bit high for a stock setup idi pickup truck, but also bit nicer than most idi trucks are.you pass, someone buys it.
if you see a turbo under the hood (doesn't matter which kind) thinking's all over,it's an instant buy.

The turbo is the stock turbo, not an aftermarket. I believe they added the turbo stock in 92? And as for the other truck, it had blow by. Also he wouldn't take any kind of payments. So no go. I went and drove the truck and it was a bit over priced for it's shape. Loved the look of it just didn't have the money

GNR22, he added airbags, upgraded the leaf springs from F250 to 1 ton (stiffer). As for the grill obviously It's for looks, I dont plan on hitting something with the truck any time soon lol .

Anyway I just bought it $5800. I got a good deal in my opinion. With the condition and all. I'll be driving it home tomorrow. Not a PS but hey it's a diesel. International ain't that bad. It's got gauges, Temp and Turbo I think. It's a sweet truck.

Thanks for everyone's opinions. I'd like to know about turning up the pump. Anyone know how to do that and what effects on power i'll get?

Thanks

congrats.don't touch the ip just yet.get yourself an egt gauge then call up banks and tell them your looking for their upgraded down pipe that fits the factory ford turbos or search the idi section, cus i think iirc someone was modding the stock outlets to accept perhaps the psd dp's or something.i dunno,i don't keep up with the latest.check into it and see what you have for options first.you want more air in/out first.adding fuel is always last.

Hey Congratulations on buying your new truck. I think you got a pretty good deal on it and it looked like a real nice truck, looked pretty clean. And I guess welcome to the diesel world. I wish I could join you, but that probably won't be for a while though. And sorry for giving you incorrect information before. I thought about that right after I posted it, but hoped that someone would say something about it if I was wrong, which they did, so that was good. Again really sorry for giving you wrong info. Congrats again on purchasing your new truck, I think you'll really like it.

I only have 2nd hand info, but I was told that Ford didn't put a turbo on the 7.3 until '94. Was I given bad info?
