oil analysis
just got the report back from the first oil change on the new to me truck and was shocked to see the Iron, Aluminum, Nickel above the acceptable limits. it then went on to say
"nickel can be found in camshafts, valve trains, turbo cam plates, turbine blades and roller bearings. Additice levels indicate that oil is not as stated check identy of lube in use"
i was told they had ran shell tsyn 5w40 but must not have, now curious as to what would cause those level to be so high as i have not heard anything that sounds out of line? anyone got any ideas? thanks

can you see them?
just bought the truck at the beginning of the year and changed the oil soon after to shell 5w40 t6 synthetic, which is what he thouhgt it had, must not have been. also i think it may have had more than 10k miles on the oil possibly not for sure tho. from what he said he never towed much with it just a small camper few times and put ~20k miles on it in a year so i think it was a lot of highway for him but not sure. for me its we just when up north 350miles one way puling a enclosed snowmobile trailer prob total weight around 18k otherwise just a commuter not being driven daily but usually 20miles plus one way. live in a small town so some stop and go but not because of traffic just small town livin. it is a 2008 with 136k miles

Where you don't know how many miles that oil had on it or what it was, I would continue to sample with your current oil and watch the trending reports.
You may wish to pull a sample at 2500 miles on this oil and submit it to see what it's telling you. You can get a pump and tubing kit to fill a sample bottle. This can be pulled from either your dipstick tube (which is likely your only option on this engine) or from your filler cap opening. The tubing is the correct size to slide down the dipstick pipe. Never reuse tubing! Use a new one each time. If you get oil on the pump, spray it down with brake & parts cleaner, preferably an alcohol based one, before next use.
