Hi,

Please follow the install guide called "ADS-RR(SR)-FOR01-DS2-IG" found here: http://maestro.idatalink.com/support.

It will tell you the color, location and how to connect the Signal SWI2 Signal wire. You do have to cut that wire, connect Maestro to the steering wheel side and cap off the side going to the MS Sync module.

Your car is covered on page 10 and I'm assuming you have Expediton without factory navi. You find the wire in large harness going through center console on right hand side. Sync is under center console way at the back towards the rear seats.

For OEM backup cameras, there are lots of posts on the internet about how to do this.

In your truck, I believe the harness runs in the headliner from rear of truck so you have to go up there to tag it (but I could be wrong). Here is some info we have on your truck and how to do it.

In 2008-2011 Expedition -
Video +: White/Green
Video -: Brown/Violet.
Found in headliner near the Driver’s sun visor area. Wires run from rear of truck to front in roof. They are not in any pillar or kick panel.

In most vehicles without Navi, the video for the rear camera is displayed on the rear view mirror in a 3 inch color LCD. After installation of Maestro and radio, you may wish to have the rear view camera displayed on the radio.
The two video wires are run together and will likely be in a shield with a bare third wire black third wire. It will be obvious they are A/V signal wires. Take a long RCA (try to use a yellow one to match input color on radio) and cut off one RCA end. Strip back the wires and you will have one wire for the center pin and one wire for the outside barrel part of the RCA.
Video +: Connect to Center conductor of the RCA
Video -: Connect to the outside part of the RCA (barrel part).
Once you get the RCA connected and run to the radio, plug RCA in to the Rear Camera input. If using T-harness there is pre-wired reverse signal so just connect the violet/white on T-harness to Reverse Input on radio the wiring is done. Finally, setup radio to detect reverse interruption (there is a setup menu for rear camera) and camera will turn on when you go into reverse.

PLEASE NOTE: We have nothing to do with the camera interface and this is NOT part of the Maestro installation.

Best,

Thanks for the prompt reply! And thanks for the good information and advice. I'm looking forward to giving this a go - soon as I get some spare time to take the Expedition apart.

sync not working in recent maestro/kenwood install

I installed my DNX890HD & Maestro in 2012 Expedition late yesterday and my sync steering wheel control doesn't appear to be working correctly. Nothing happens when I press the voice button on the wheel and I have the bottom phone icon/ok button set up so the ok button should display the nav screen with one press and the vehicle info screen with a press and hold - nothing happens there either.

The volume, seek steering buttons work. The other parts of the radio seem to work (haven't had time to go through all of it) - radio, dvd player, vehicle screen, gauge screen, navigation, etc.

I haven't paired my phone yet - if that makes a difference.

I'm good at following directions and handy with installs. I had to cut a wire leading from the sync unit and splice it to the maestro. Guide said it was white/brown in large bundle heading back under the center console on the right side.

There was a large bundle of wires coming up into the radio cavity from under the console on the right side and I pulled back the tape, exposed what I assume to be the correct wire, cut it, taped off the end coming from under the console and spliced the other end to the maestro wire.

AM I looking in the right place and using the right wire?

12V guy set me right! I was looking at the wrong page and cut the wire to one of my speakers (white/brown). Supposed to cut & splice the blue/orange one.

That did the trick and now sync seems to be working. The Kenwood DNX890HD has more bells & whistles than I can shake a stick at - got a lot to learn, fool around with & tweak.

Thanks to all who answered my questions. Still can't believe I read the install guide wrong. Good thing it was only a speaker wire!

12V guy please help me. Im having the same issue Fboykin had in my situation I cut the right blue/orage SWI2 wire. My car is Ford Edge (blue/orange center console, to the right, harness going to the back). I attached the pink/red wire as the diagram indicates and connected it to the blue/orange going to the front of the car (to the steering wheel) and everything seems to work fine all the other cotrols volume up and down, seek buttons, and media selection work perfect but the voice and phone/ok buttons.

Am I missing something? I know sync is working cause if I access my phone using the touchscreen I can hear the voice commands and sync is listening to me and I can place a call telling sync the phone number I want to dial the same as I can access all other phone commands. Seems just the buttons arent getting configured properly.

Also when I flashed my module I noticed that the base system with Sync shows the Voice, Phone/OK buttons with a yellow triangle and white exclamation mark inside meaning "Special installation procedure may apply. See install guide" which is the same guide I followed.

I will appreciate your help in this matter. Maybe my pink/red cable isnt properly attached to the blue/orange SWI 2 cable?

You either have the wrong wire or you are connected to the wrong side of the wire. Best thing would be for you to go to the website, click on the tab called Support and give us a call so we can help you find the wire. It is in a very large harness with lots of wires that are taped together into sub-harnesses, some wires that are twisted pairs and then some loose wires. It will be one of the loose wires and will be a small gauge wire. When you cut it, you need to connect to the side that goes back towards the steering wheel and not the side that goes deeper under the center console.

Hope this helps,

12V Guy

Ok I think I did what you said in your previous comment, but just in case here is a picture. I think this way is easier..

<a href="http://s333.photobucket.com/user/Linetha/media/photo1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m380/Linetha/photo1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo photo1.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s333.photobucket.com/user/Linetha/media/photo2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m380/Linetha/photo2.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo photo2.jpg"/></a>
<a href="http://s333.photobucket.com/user/Linetha/media/photo3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m380/Linetha/photo3.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo photo3.jpg"/></a>

There you can see the colors of the wires. There is a blue/red one that could confuse anyone but is bigger and its RED not orange, also the other one is purple/orange so I think I have the correct blue/orange cable and that one is going to the steering wheel (front of the car) away from the module. Maybe the wires aren't making proper contact?

Btw, I just talked with tech support,as you told me, and they agree with me I have the right cable but it seems is not receiving the signal so Im about to double check if the wires are making good contact. I even told them I posted a picture just in case I have the wrong cable so I will be waiting for your comment to see if its actually the correct one. Thanks a lot!

Who did you speak with in tech support? You can tell if the wire is correct or not by looking at LED on the Maestro module. When you press OK, Phone or Voice the LED should blink to show you it is detecting the button. Our techs will not usually finish the call unless you are working.

I checked the cables and they are making good contact, also the signal as you told me and no its not lighting up the led when I press those buttons Voice, Phone/Ok. Did you see the pictures? is that the right wire..there are no other blue/orange wires there. Im about to call again to see if there is a somewhere I can send images.

What is your weblink user name? Let me check your flash as well.
The picture looks like you have the correct wire, but i can't tell if you have the side going up to the steering wheel from the picture.

Cheers,

This are the pictures if you zoom it you will see a lose cable not attached to anything.. I left it that way and took the unit to my apartment I was afraid to leave it there alone in the middle of an installation, will be so easy to steal without the dash kit. Thats why you see it unplugged now. But there you can see how it is the side going to the front of the car.

Another one here. Im about to join the blue/orange cable back to the sync module and install the original radio and test it.. if it works then maybe is the harness pink/red wire that is lose at the plug or broken somewhere.

<a href="http://s333.photobucket.com/user/Linetha/media/photo5-1.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src="http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m380/Linetha/photo5-1.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo photo5-1.jpg"/></a>

I thinking it might be the harness cable cause mine seems to be refurbished since my obd2 cables are extrmely short and I haven't plug them yet. Unless that is what I'm missing, but I dont see they are related to those buttons. Aren't those just for the gauges, tire preassure, check engine etc..etc.. etc.? I bought "stranded copper" 18 gauge cable to make them long as recommended by crutchfield tech support.

Pioneer says the 2014 NEX systems are iDatalink Maestro compatible but don't give any specifics to what features will be available for these. The one I'm interested in it the AVIC 8000NEX. Do you by chance what alls available feature wise for these ?
