79 axle in a 75 HB

Ok so i finally found my front axle out of a 79. Since this is going in a 75 HB what will I need to do with the power steering? Can I use the steering assist or what do i need to change to power steering? Do i use the same PS pump and gear box. Not sure.

I am assuming that the 79 is also a f250, if so you should only have to change the knuckle arm as the 2 are at different angles. Unless you wanted to upgrade to the 79 box and steering, that is also an option.

Yes it is a 250 d44 axle. Im thinking i might upgrade to the 79 PS. dont see any reason not to. Thanks for the input.

Just curious what little fab work did you need to do? Didn't look like much but just wondering.

You can do either, if the power assist works just keep using it, if not, there's no better time than now to get a 78/79 box.

Correct, the 76-77.5 knuckle arm is angled differently than the 77.5-79 arm (about a 2" difference) but the OP has a 75, it's a completely different arm altogether.

One each of the two different 76-79 arms...

73-75 arm, it's part of the kingpin cap...

Montana,
Thanks for the pics that is a big difference between arms. I guess there is no better time to switch over. I will start looking for a steering box and go from there.

Thanks Tim

Yea it is. I built that in the early 90's. Had it for 20 years, took all the good stuff off and make it a plow truck. Sold it to a local guy, really rusty. Going to build a new one just collecting more parts.

that will work. what are the plates for anyway. sturdy up the frame, does the gear box need to move out? What? Just trying to figure out the reasons behind the plate.
