Hi Ryan. yes that seems high for what it is. There are better trucks around Texas for that kind of money. If its close it might be worth a ride to see if anything on it at all works. running with functional brakes and steering that would be a good starting point to negotiate from.

$5k got me a running, driving, (and stopping) licensed truck all I had to do was put tags on. In fact it even had paint on all the metal.....
Without accomodating regional differences I would tend to say here's a rule:
basket case: $500 - $750
it's all there and still assembled : $1000 - $5000 (a lot depending on condition)
$5k + it runs, and not just "runs" for 10 second demonstration - you drive it home.

What you have there with the surface rust and all, I wouldn't give over $1800 - but that's me and a SWAG from pictures only.

He's probably hoping that somebody will offer him $1,000. It's always easier to lower the price than raise the price! Jag

I'm not putting you down but from what I can see in your picture is going to be a pretty big project and it might be a old truck but this is a big project for even an experieced restorer. Look at the projects that are up for sale in E-bay, people run out of money or interest before they are done. Find something you can mod and drive at the same time.

Friend of mine up in Branson, MO has this one for sale for.....
"For sale, 51 Chevy 5 window truck. I have owned this truck for many years, and thought I might restore it one day but never have. I am ready to sell it. It's a pretty solid old truck. Will need a complete restoration . Asking $2500 or reasonable offer. Shoot me a price , it won't offend me! I'll make you a deal you can't understand ! Need it gone ASAP !"

Hate it when they price them like that. An appropriate opening offer should be $500 and all that will liikely do is tick him off.

that guy is definately asking way too much i wouldnt pay more than 2k. with that much surface rust its likely theres also a lot of unseen rot in all of the joints, where fenders mount to the cab/bed etc. im nearing the finish of a resto mod f100 that i got in hawaii which turned out to be a huge rust bucket i didnt replace a single body part but rather just have 4 or more areas that i had to cut out and fab in new sheet metal. so if your gunna take this projrct on just know from the get go that typical restorations take 3-8 years and a lot of money....good luck and have fun bro!

I am not sure what you are talking about, but I got my truck for FREE. So the thousand or so dollars I would have paid can, and has gone into parts.
