390 question??

Hey everybody it's been a while since I have been on here but I have a question about my 68 with a 390. After doing some looking around on here and reading some earlier threads I decided to replace the two barrel intake with a Holley Street Dominator that I already had an put a 650 holley(spreadbore) that I also already had. I'm not fond of the q-jet replacement over a square bore but thats what I had. And I also installed a set of Heddman headers too. There was a significant power improvement and I was just wondering if anyone could give me some rough numbers on hp now as I've got the old fella flowing pretty good now Thanks guys for any info!

New pictures of progress

Here is also a picture of what else I have been up too. I replaced both inner fenders and swapped the radiator support with a good one from a 74. Installed the clear headlights and replaced the Ranger emblem. And also the engine I described in the last post. Just thought I'd share these pictures for others to see

Hey Lucas, you have that engine looking good. The stock truck 390 came at about 235 hp. With headers, intake/carb combination I'd guess you've added 30-50 hp. Depends on your ignition system and how you tune it now. The compression ratio of the truck is what holds the engine back, but it does make it a good work engine. If you want more power/torque then your next step would be the cam. If you want to increase the idle and throttle response as well as any mis-fires at higher rpms, them you'll need to upgrade the ignition system. There is a good article in the 73-79 forum in the tech sticky about the ignition upgrades.
Cheers.

Thanks Bart! I have been thinking about replacing the points with the petronix replacement to keep the original dizzy and also have been considering the Comp 268H cam for a mild upgrade and im going to check that ignition thread out for sure!
