Super Bowl XLVII

Well I know this was going to come up as a topic so I figured I'd make it. So I know we have some football fans and especially some 49'er fans and some Ravens fans. So how do you guys think the Super Bowl will turn out.

I would like to see the 49'ers win because of Colin Kaepernick, he took the reigns of the 49'ers mid season and he had made a great improvement to the team. The reason I want the Ravens to win is because of Ray Lewis. This is his last game and he is the only player that is still on the Ravens team when they won the Super Bowl in 2000. He said he has always wanted to retire with 2 Super Bowl rings and this is his chance. This is why I have them winning with 31-28.

Me thinks the Raven as the older brother has already beat the younger one once..... and I also think that QB experience will win out. Just hope that the Offensive Coord. lets Flacco do his thing instead of handing off the ball to Rice on 1st and 2nd down.

I agree. I think it comes down to the fact that the Ravens have a QB with more experience and this years he has made a HUGE improvement over the last few years.

i am biased because i am a niner fan but colin is too quick for ray to catch, ravens offense is no match for our defense, and we have too many weapons on offense for the ravens defense to overcome. of course as i said i am biased.

I am biased too, but unless the Niners defensive coordinator can come up with the proper coverage and schemes, Flacco is talented enough to pick the Niners secondary apart.

Here's hoping this comes true!

Well, I was rootin' for the Seahawks but, since they're out of the race, I'll root for the Niners instead...

Aside from geography preventing me from backing the 49'ers (), I think Baltimore's defense is going to be too much for them.

31-17 Baltimore.

My son-in-law is a CA native and life long Twenty niners fan....normally reason enough to go against them. But, I don't want to see them get a 6th ring either.

On the other hand, I'm not sure that I want to see Ray Lewis get another ring. Unless playing in the Prison Bowl.

I guess I will just go for the team that has the most points....

Ray Lewis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Murder trial

Following a Super Bowl XXXIV party in Atlanta on January 31, 2000, a fight broke out between Lewis and his companions and another group of people, resulting in the stabbing deaths of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were questioned by Atlanta police, and 11 days later the three men were indicted on murder and aggravated-assault charges. The fight occurred about 200 yards from the Cobalt Lounge at 265 East Paces Ferry Road in the Buckhead Village neighborhood about two miles north of downtown Atlanta where Lewis had been celebrating.[37][38] The white suit Lewis was wearing the night of the killings has never been found. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard alleged the blood-stained suit was dumped in a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant.[39] A knife found at the scene did not have any fingerprints or DNA. Lewis subsequently testified that Oakley and Sweeting had bought knives earlier in Super Bowl week from a Sports Authority where Lewis had been signing autographs.[40][41] Baker's blood was found inside of Lewis's limousine.[42]
Lewis' attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, of the Atlanta law firm Garland, Samuel & Loeb, negotiated a plea agreement with Howard, where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting,[43] and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice.[12] Lewis admitted he gave a misleading statement to police on the morning after the killings. Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation, the maximum sentence for a first-time offender,[44] and he was fined $250,000 by the NFL, which was believed to be the highest fine levied against an NFL player for an infraction not involving substance abuse.[45] Under the terms of the sentence, Lewis could not use drugs or alcohol during the duration of the probation.
Oakley and Sweeting were acquitted of the charges in June 2000.[46][47] No other suspects have ever been arrested for the crime.
The following year, Lewis was named Super Bowl XXXV MVP. However, the signature phrase "I'm going to Disney World!" was given instead to quarterback Trent Dilfer.
On April 29, 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, born months after the death of her father Richard, pre-empting a scheduled civil proceeding. Lewis also reached an undisclosed settlement with Baker's family.[46]

I like this group of 49ers -- well, except for the coach. Yes, he's the one who turned them around, but he seems like a real Richard. But, who knows, maybe the players really like him.

As for 6 rings, some of the earlier ones should have probably been vacated from what I remember. Their was some pretty big time hanky pank going on that allowed the 9ers to have some unbelievable talent. At least that's what was reported at one time. Still, it's hard not to like Montana and Rice.

Don't know much about Baltimore, but they were awfully good against New England.

Could be a pretty good game.

Thanks Ian for putting that tidbit up. You beat me to it. All I hear about is how Lewis is a class act blah blah. More like he had a good attorney if you ask me.
Still rooting for Ravens tho as I think Jim Harbored is the biggest egotistical a-hole on the west coast

If you can walk the walk then I have no issue with it all. Besides many base that on the fact that he answers questions with very short answers and doesn't tolerate stupid questions well. Reporters, in general and especially sports reporters, have the market cornered on stupid questions. Hmm, I don't tolerate stupid obvious questions well myself.

What the heck are you referring to?

Trades and draft picks got them the talent. Walsh cutting beloved veterans loose before they "lost a step" and restocking with younger talent is what kept them going.

I'd rather have a perceived egotist like Jim, than a verifed azzhole like Belichick.

Eddie DeBartolo no doubt.

The whole family had er, umm...issues. I mean, like crooked nose types. Sr. was often under investigation by the Feds.

The joke around Youngstown, OH at the time was daddy bought the 49ers for Eddie as a birthday present.

Eddie lost the team over his shenanigans with the Go. of Louisiana and a little gambling/casino license he never got.
