Does my rear end look big in this? With pics!
Hello, hoping for a bit of advice. My tailgate has a flat panel fitted over the original panel. I don't mind it, might be good if I could louver it even. But I am tossing up taking it off to have the original panel.
I have seen others like this. I assume it is a readily available cover panel. My question is, is it possible to take it off readily, is it just fitted on somehow, or is it welded on perhaps?
I look forward to hearing from you.

Do you see the original stamped panel (in reverse) on the inside or is the inside smooth as well? If it is welded and well done, it would probably be better to try to find someone who has a stock tailgate and wants a smooth one then trade. It's usually a lot more difficult to undo a modification than to do it in the first place. You could always paint the Ford logo in the center of the tailgate or find or make chrome version or letters that bolt on. Brass is pretty easy to work with and takes chroming very well if you want to make your own.
Mid Fifty makes a louvered panel that can be put over the smooth panel.

Hello fellas, thanks for your interest and comments. I posted this late last night and somehow managed to lose the first draft just as I was about to post it. When I did it again, I realise now I didn't mention you can see the original panel still there on the back.
I don't mind it as it is different, just considering options. Some one has offered to cut out a Ford script to put on there for me, and the louvred panels would be interesting perhaps.
It seems to me that the panel was slid onto the original panel and no visible welds along the top area of tailgate but I can see welds along the section rolled over the lower edge where it pivots to open. Didn't get a picture of this.

Hello John,
We are doing ok, plenty of rain, supposed to get heavier and possible 120 kmh winds. Hopefully the tornadoes from up north won't make it down here, they say it is a possibility but it is probably very unlikely. Hope it is better next weekend for the Toowoomba swap meet, I am looking forward to that.
I did originally think of getting a name airbrushed or on a panel fixed to the back but haven't decided on a name I like enough yet.
Cheers
