New Guy need some help and some advice

Hey guys Im a long time lurker here, But anywho I just bought a 1985 f250 2wd with a 300 in it, I was driving it home and it was being a typical work truck mainly just the rattling of it going down the highway and what not, but back to what I have a question on, My fiance and I were driving back to my parents house for the night and when we pulled over We noticed that some kind of fluid (thin and oily most likely tranny fluid was pouring out of the front of the truck like a sive and I assumed it was power steering fluid up untill the truck would not go into gear and started to slip) do you guys have any idea what could be the culprit? I have it parked in front of my parents house and the subdivision isnt too pleased with beat up work trucks sitting in the street and i need it to be able to move so i can get to school so If you guys have any ideas or anything it would be awesome ! Thank you very much in advance

It's most likely that it was trans fluid - from the oil cooler lines that run between the trans & the radiator. Once enough fluid was lost, you would lose drive from the trans.
You might just have a loose fitting, or possibly a faulty/damaged line.
There are short pieces of hose connecting the steel lines together......one of these may have cracked. They need to be low pressure hydraulic hose - DON'T use fuel hose.

The cooler is housed inside the radiator. You may also have an auxiliary cooler in front of the radiator, plumbed into the circuit.

Yup. Inspect, fix any damaged sections and refill the trans. If you're lucky you didn't do too much damage and it'll be fine. If not...

Yup. Just fixed this issue on a friends accord. Rubber hose busted on his right next to the cooler.

On a side note. His system called for 3 quarts for a change. It took a whole gallon to fill it up to read on the stick. So you may need more than the stated amount to refill the system.

Might help if you clicked on "User CP" in the upper right, then "Edit Details" and fill out where you're from.

Because the truck was still driving OK when you pulled over, I think you are probably fine.
